(2008) The Veros are a species of imposing anthro t-rex-like creatures that average around 7 feet tall and are heavily built, appearing mostly in dull earth tones with thick scaly hide. They evolved as the only top predator in resource-poor conditions that gave rise to a high degree of intraspecific competition, ultimately shaping their culture as one based on dominance of the strong over the weak. This persisted throughout their development such that when the Veros took to the stars they did so with a desire for conquest, feeling that the natural order of things and their calling as a people was for them to enslave and rule any species they deemed 'weaker' than themselves.
When the Veros Star Empire encountered the small, peaceful, tribal and barely industrialized Tavi they were understandably quick to feel it was their place to rule them. The Veros struck hard and fast, overrunning Tavros and enslaving the inhabitants for over fifty years before the Argothae joined war with the Veros and ultimately liberated Tavros. During the time of slavery the Tavi were employed in Veros factories and mines, while the less fortunate ones were selected to be personal slaves and pets to Veros of high military rank or other social standing.
The buildings and starship in the background illustrate Veros architecture and design principles well; about as sophisticated as a brick, but about that durable too.
The Veros, Tavi and Argothae species are original creations of my own silly little brain.
Hah, no the similarity is entirely unintentional! I've never played Wing Commander myself, but after some quick googling I can definitely see the resemblance.

Hehe, yeah powered armour would be one way to level the playing field a bit. Personally I tend to be a fan of the approach to human sci-fi armour taken by the Halo games and the film Aliens; they look more like a natural evolution of modern military technology. Seems like a good look for the species!

Ah, yeah I don't think I've actually seen much of that visualised myself. The notion of ancient humans having been not only spacefaring once but involved in a forgotten war against the Forerunners was sort of new and out of the blue to me in Halo 4, and seemed to go against all that had been established previously. I was following the franchise more closely when it was in Bungie's hands, so they lost me a bit at that I'm afraid and I haven't encountered much of it.
