Farewell to Patrick Stewart, who recently died from complications of Alzheimer's disease. That was a surprise, yet at the same time, not really that much of a surprise. He was 86, and it was clear that he had slowed down in the Star Trek series Picard that aired some years earlier.
He'll be missed. He was a great actor, with an enormous body of work spanning film, television, and even video games, but he was also a gentleman with a conscience, a trait that's become increasingly rare in this country.
Anyway! I felt like sketching this out, and doing a voice impression of the man. It's based on a scene from the short-lived series The Critic, called "Star Trek: Generation X," where Keanu Reeves and Christian Slater annoy Patrick Stewart and William Shatner.
Sean Connery and Patrick Stewart have similar vocal qualities, but while Sean was a little sloshy and a little slurry, as if he was on his fifth shot of whiskey, Patrick sounds like he's suffering from a hangover... curt, forceful, and thoroughly done with all this shit. If you want to do Patrick Stewart, start with a Sean Connery and tighten your sphincter accordingly.
