“And that's when I realized,” said Tails, “who our main villain is.”
“And who is it? Eggman? Chaos? Metal?” shouts rang out from all sides.
“Tails, I beg you, don’t speak in riddles,” Sonic interjected.
“No, my friends,” Tails began to reveal the secret, “the main villain in our world is not Metal, not Chaos, and not even Eggman!” -Tails spun around abruptly and pointed his finger straight at the camera—“It’s you, the writer! It’s you who, time and time again, sends us on unimaginable adventures from which we don’t always manage to return alive! It’s you who, with a single stroke of your pen, kills our closest friends and brings our sworn enemies back to life! You make us suffer, shedding tears of sorrow and joy, forming tactical alliances, and getting caught up in love triangles! You’re worse than an executioner, because at least an executioner does his job and follows orders—for which he gets paid to make a living. But you kill and resurrect not even out of revenge, but purely for your own pleasure; you throw us into boiling lava just to see what will happen—and exactly how the death cries of creatures writhing in agony will sound together! What do you get in exchange for a dozen heroic deeds, and in exchange for yet another of our deaths?! Honor and respect within the confines of yet another digital community, a heightened sense of self-worth, and moral satisfaction? These are fleeting things; they’ll vanish sooner or later, often before you’ve had a chance to fully enjoy them—or even realize they exist! Our tears mean nothing to you! Not even for a moment do you allow yourself to consider that the beings at the tip of your pen might also have feelings—sometimes deeper and more multifaceted than your own! We, too, have souls; we, too, can suffer, love, and hate! Come to your senses, author, and stop sending us to our deaths just for entertainment. Who knows—maybe you, too, are just a character at the tip of someone else’s pen. Or perhaps even at the tip of your own."
