Not having enough stallions for every mare is a chronic problem in all of Equestria, a matter of herd-based biology clashing with mostly monogamous culture. Every city and town has their own traditional way to help ease that problem. And as a stallion who has recently moved to Ponyville, you're about to learn about Ponyville's tradition: P.U.F.F: the Ponyville Unfettered Fertility Festival. Once a year, the entire town gathers for an elaborate dance with three rings. In the very center are the blank-flanked foals and the elderly -- those either too young or too old to participate in the main event will provide most of the music and song for the others' dancing. In the middle ring, stallions dance in one direction around the circle. In the outer ring, mares dance in the other direction. For each round of the dance, you're given one daisy. When the music stops, you have the option of giving your daisy to the mare who happened to stop in front of you, or you can pass on her and wait for the next one. At the end of the round, you and the mare you gave a daisy to will publicly breed, along with many other couples around the town square. The whole process then repeats two more times, with your picks from the earlier rounds 'helping' you breed the mare from the next round. All in all, you'll meet nine mares, and you'll be able to choose three of them to breed. The mares will include all appropriately-aged mares in Ponyville, including Princess Celestia and Princess Luna, who are visiting to witness and participate in the ceremonies. Which mare ends up in front of you each time the music stops will be totally random (based on a random number generator), and then you'll need to choose whether to pick her or pass on her and hope for a better one next time. You'll definitely get three, but which three? That depends on the luck of the draw and the wisdom of your own choices. Each choice is final. If you pass on a mare, you can't get her back. If you give a mare your daisy, you'll have no daisy to give to the next mare. But no matter who you end up with, I'm sure it will be fun! |
