Mike had worked late at the shop. It happened sometimes, especially if there was a vehicle that was a rush job and HAD to be fixed quick. Mary had fallen asleep in her room before he had gotten home, but the sound of the front door closing roused her from sleep. She peeked at the glowing digital alarm clock sitting on the nightstand as she clambered out of bed. 10:25, mom was still at her bowling league night.
The little hyena yawned sleepily as she padded over to her door, reaching for the handle and opening it before wandering out into the hallway. Down the main hall of their single floor home to her brother's closed door. She didn't bother knocking, just opening the door and walking into her brother's dimly lit room and closing the door behind her.
Mike had just just gotten out of his work clothes and sat down on the edge of his bed as Mary climbed up and moved quickly over to him, wrapping her small arms around his neck and planting several sleepy affectionate kisses on her older brother's cheek.
"Mikey~" She said with a happy little hyena rumble in her voice.
"Hey Mary.. Sorry I'm home late, Doug wanted me to finish some stuff at work so I had to stay late." Mike explained as he scooted himself backwards and laid down on his bed, stretching out before relaxing and settling into his comfortable bed.
His little sister was immediately as his side, burying her face in his shoulder and inhaling deeply before snuggling into him.
"Tell Doug you can't stay late anymore. I missed you, I can't sleep when you're not here." The little hyena teased him.
Mike chuckled quietly.
"Yeah, I'll tell him I can't stay late anymore because my girlfriend gets mad when I stay late."
This made the little hyena grumble and push her head against his chest and snuggle into him harder.
"You're not allowed to have a girlfriend. I'm your girlfriend."
"You can't be my girlfriend, Mary. You're my sister."
She looked up at him, narrowing her eyes and pouting at him.
"Well that's stupid... I can be your girlfriend if I want to."
Mike just smiled at her and leaned down just enough to give her a little kiss on the top of her head right between her big square hyena ears.
"Alright, fine. You can be my girlfriend. But we have to keep that a secret."
Mary grinned widely. She always got what she wanted. Always.
"Yeah, it's our secret~"
"Hey Mikey..."
"Yeah?"
"I love you."
"I love you too."
