You have my condolences my old friend. I lost another friend a few days ago to a car accident, a drunk driver hit him and four other cars.
He lived waaaaay too far away for me to attend a funeral and even so, his family... well they didn't approve of his lifestyle so no comfort there. (I wasn't romantically involved, but we are both furries.) It just dug up a lot of dark stuff that I am still trying to deal with. Is it wrong that I feel jealous? *sigh* Yeah, it's complicated.

Sorry to hear about your friend. Losing someone suddenly just sucks. My friend fell down the stairs, and I was like: "Just like that? That's it? He was having a regular day and then lost his balance and now he's gone? What kind of bullshit is that?"

I actually lost another friend that way. She was walking out her back door, slipped or lost her balance and shattered the back of her skull against the edge of her concrete stoop. She was a part of my local CB radio community, big into the charities in her community, was friends to a lot of people. Just... gone in her early 40's. This was... oof... like 35 years ago. But the senselessness of her passing stayed with me for a long time. I guess as you get older you start collecting a lot of these.

I am told that in this universe, nothing is forever.
If that is true, then "never" does not exist. If nothing is forever, nothing that belongs together can ever truly be separated, some day, all that is broken must be mended, all that is riven made whole, if nothing is forever, then all that is lost must some day be found, if that is truly the nature of the universe.
I don't know if it means anything to you. I have lost... a lot. These past few years. I am told
I'm sorry to hear that you've suffered so much. What you said reminded me of something I wrote a long time ago. An interaction in a story:
They... they're all here. Everything that is gone is still right here!
Yes. Death is not an end and life is not a beginning. Everything created always has been. Even when bodies decay, what they were continues on. Matter lives on. Thoughts live on. Spirits live on. Becoming something else but never destroyed. Echoing forever beyond the scope of existence.
How can it be?
It is as it is. Reality is chaotic but it is not without form. It is cold but not uncaring. It remembers them all. Has a place for them all. The most insignificant speck has a place and takes part in everything.
Even me?
Even you. Yet, this is still not the end.
There's more?
Much more.
