👑 Former Queen of Dream Land
Long before King Dedede sat upon the throne of Dream Land, Coffee Bean was its beloved queen.
Unlike rulers who demanded fear or obedience, Coffee Bean ruled through kindness, patience, and compassion. She regularly walked among the citizens without guards, helping injured animals, listening to villagers' problems, and making sure no creature in Dream Land went hungry.
Because of her gentle nature, the people adored her.
Coffee Bean never believed that being royalty made her better than anyone else. To her, being queen meant having a responsibility to protect those who couldn't protect themselves.
Her closest companion and protector was Meta Knight.
Meta Knight had served Coffee Bean for years and was fiercely loyal to her. He admired her kindness, but he also knew that her compassion could sometimes make her blind to danger.
And eventually, he would be proven right.
🐧 The Lost Child
One day, Coffee Bean discovered a young King Dedede wandering alone.
He was only a child at the time.
He was loud, rough around the edges, and clearly accustomed to being alone. Yet Coffee Bean didn't see a future tyrant when she looked at him.
She saw a frightened child who needed someone.
Meta Knight immediately became suspicious.
He warned Coffee Bean that something about the boy didn't feel right.
But Coffee Bean refused to abandon him.
When Meta Knight questioned why she would take in a child she barely knew, Coffee Bean looked at Dedede and gently replied:
"When I was a child, you never left me... Besides, look at him. He's just a child."
Those words stayed with Meta Knight.
Coffee Bean brought Dedede into the royal castle and raised him as though he were her own.
She fed him.
She taught him.
She protected him.
She showed him kindness when he expected rejection.
For years, Dedede grew up under Coffee Bean's care.
To Coffee Bean, he wasn't a monster.
He was her child.
⚔️ The Fall of the Queen
As Dedede grew older, however, his ambitions grew with him.
He became obsessed with the throne.
He believed that Dream Land needed a stronger ruler—someone who wouldn't simply ask for respect, but take it.
Coffee Bean tried to reason with him.
She reminded him that the throne wasn't about power.
It was about protecting the people.
But Dedede no longer wanted to listen.
Eventually, he challenged Coffee Bean for the throne.
The confrontation between them was devastating.
Coffee Bean refused to truly hurt the child she had raised, while Dedede had no such hesitation.
In the end, Dedede defeated Coffee Bean and claimed the throne of Dream Land.
The queen who had once been loved by everyone was forced from her own kingdom.
And Coffee Bean couldn't bring herself to fight back against the child she had raised.
🌲 Exile in Whispy Woods
Heartbroken, Coffee Bean disappeared into Whispy Woods.
She abandoned her crown.
She abandoned the castle.
She abandoned the name Queen Coffee Bean.
From then on, she simply became Coffee Bean.
A feral fox living among the trees.
The once-beloved queen now hid from the kingdom she had spent so many years protecting.
She still loved Dream Land.
She still loved its people.
But she couldn't bear to return.
And worst of all...
She was afraid of Dedede.
The child she had once sheltered had become the king she now feared.
🛡️ Meta Knight Never Forgot Her
Meta Knight never forgot Coffee Bean.
He remembered the kind queen who had once taken in a lonely child despite his warnings.
He remembered her words:
"He's just a child."
And he remembered how that same child eventually took everything from her.
When Meta Knight eventually found Coffee Bean wounded in Whispy Woods, he realized just how much she had been suffering alone.
But Coffee Bean still refused to hate Dedede.
Even after everything he had done.
Because somewhere deep inside her heart, she still remembered the little boy she had once found wandering alone.
She remembered the child before she remembered the king.
