Leo is eighteen and one meter forty. People notice the height first.
In the Yucatán jungle the map dies, the rented scooter stops, and two men follow him down a dirt trail. Leo runs. The ground opens. One step is earth. The next is air.
He falls into a hidden cenote — no ladder, no railing, no way back.
From the green water rises the last guardian: a scarred shell, a face too human for a turtle and too turtle for a man. He does not lunge. He watches the way a tide watches a boat. Then he offers a hand.
Deeper still, a cave waits — low enough for a small boy to fit without breaking it. At the edge of a pool clear as glass, a hatchling blinks up at the stranger who did not come to take anything.
The story ends there, where the water does not look like a postcard.
A quiet jungle fantasy about size, kindness, and water that is older than names.
