This was a new place for him. It evoked wonder. It made for a natural breeding ground for fireflies too. It gave the surrounding landscape a unique blue glow that could be seen for kilometres in all directions.
Located near the village of Granton the fall's most defining feature were the naturally sintered cobalt veins that rippled across the jagged and dark rock. Millenia of erosion from rivers fed the cobalt and created grooves where life-giving waters supplied what vegetation could survive the cobalt.
And at night the veins would glow, reflected off the moonlight and stars bathing everything in a cool blue shine. As like the cherry on the top, the falls became a prominent breeding ground for fireflies, practically using the natural glow as a tutor for their own lights.
Sure the cobalt tainted the water, turned many fish strange (and probably not fit for consumption) but it was a natural occurrence. One, that Ludgren had decided to not involve himself with. It helped the beauty of this place and after all, the dwellers of this place would have evolved to suit it's conditions anyway.
More landscape practice. I had a dream a few weeks ago where I was visiting this blue glowing town. And I remember it was specifically called Granton. Turns out there's a Granton in Ontario (township in Lucan Biddulph) and while I doubt they have as prominent cobalt deposits as this I decided my version of Granton will.
I modeled everything present in the image. Ludgren belongs to me.
