On his way back to his lair, Zane kept his mind busy thinking about what he'd want on the new mobile HQ Moby was working on. Definitely thinking about a little quiet nook for him to read in, a little kitchen area and other things like that plus gadgets. Yet again, he thought about Moby. He knew the merpup pretty well but he did have questions as he's never seen Puplantis nor other merpups he was curious about their culture and history. Yeah, just their culture and history, not about a certain merpup. Zane stopped and looked down at his front right paw and touched his chest, that feeling showed up again, a pluck. He shook it off, buried it like most other feelings. The wolf dog didn't really know why he did that, perhaps he was just used to sullen emptiness. He then heard a voice call out to him. “Zane dude? You uh good?” Zuma said with Rocky right next to him. Zane scowled at the chocolate lab. “Ugh what do you want, ‘dude?’” Zane said rather hostilely. Zuma, unfazed, just sat in front of him and looked at him then to Rocky and back to the bad pup. “You looked lost in your own head. I know you don't plan anything bad, I'm not Chase so I'm not immediately suspicious of you, but something seems to be bugging you,” Zuma said with a casual shrug. “Yeah. Just if you need to talk about something, we're here to listen,” Rocky added. Zane looked at the pair, seeing how those two boys were close together and the subtle movements of affection they had for one another. Zane felt that pluck again, harder than before and nagging. “You two..why be so friendly with me all of a sudden?” Zane asked, somewhat confused. Rocky shrugged. “Because you're not bad. Sure a little bit of an ego and a bit of a show off but you're not a troublemaker like Sweetie,” Rocky answered. “And you and Moby have helped us. Speaking of him, where is he? Tracker found signs of something pulled out of the jungle,” Zuma added. Zane just scoffed. “Oh so junk being pulled out of the jungle and not left there is a problem? Rocky would do the same thing. Tch,” Zane scoffed. Rocky and Zuma giggled a bit. “Okay, okay, guess we were just assuming something. Well, we'll be going now and remember, we are here to talk if you want. Bye, Zane,” Rocky said, kissing Zuma and walking off with his boyfriend. Zane scoffed at the pair before turning around. “Farewell,” he muttered before walking off.
In the lair, Moby was obsessively working on the mobile HQ and jamming out to music in his shellphones. McSquidly was helping his merpup friend, bringing him tools and the like. The merpup felt he got the beast running again so he tried to start the engine. It groaned and groaned, not wanting to turn over. “Come on, come on. Live I say!” Moby said as he tried to start it up but it wasn't happening. “Dammit! Dammit!” He cursed, before storming out of the vehicle visibly agitated. “I guess we need a new engine, drivetrain, transmission..bow wow ugh..,” he continued, groaning and sulking. So much work for a single pup but he was used to it. It kept his mind busy but Moby knew he needed a break. The lair door opened up and Zane walked in and saw his friend annoyed. “Moby?” Zane said approaching the merpup. The sullen pup just groaned. “Stupid engine. I can't get it started,” Moby sulked, sounding defeated. Zane sat next to him, making Moby feel something pull on him. “Well it WAS in muck for a year or so yeah? Don't sweat it, alright?” Zane said, rather gently and supportive. Moby couldn't help but wag his tail a bit and he blushed slightly. “Yeah…no need to stress about it,” he chuckled. PLUCK…that feeling on his heart and this time very hard, pulling him closer to Zane. He couldn't ignore it anymore..was he.. falling for Zane? He just ignored it again, forcing himself to. How could he possibly open up like that to Zane of all pups? “Moby, I have a few questions about you and your people. I'm just curious about you and the merpups as I've never seen Puplantis,” Zane asked, looking at Moby. “Uh..what do you want to know?” Moby replied a little confused. “Why did you leave them?” Zane asked. Moby grumbled. “Too much singing! Ugh! So loud and piercing! I wanted quiet and they didn't get it. Plus there's my dad..,” Moby stopped right there which only made Zane more curious. “Your father? Hm perhaps.. don't tell me until you are ready. No need to open old wounds,” Zane replied. Moby breathed a sigh of relief and gave a little smile to his friend. “Thanks, Zane. Yeah..not ready to talk about that yet,” Moby said, somewhat surprised how genuine Zane was and how genuine he was with Zane. The wolf dog chuckled. “We all have baggage, Moby. Some choose to carry it for longer than others. Some can't drop it,” he said, sounding a bit sullen. Moby was surprised at that tone, it wasn't like Zane at all. Was he finally opening up to him more? Before he could ask anything, Zane spoke again. “Regardless, I'll get out of your fur. I'm going to read in my room so try not to bother me unless you have to,” he continued before he started to walk off. “Wait.. Zane..,” Moby said nervously. The wolf dog turned around and faced Moby. “Yes?” He inquired. “I..,” Moby started to say before the large monitor flipped to a picture of Ryder looking serious. “Zane. Moby. I know we have our differences but we need a few extra paws,” the boy said. Zane scoffed as he sat in his chair in front of the monitor looking like a typical villain with Moby right next to him. “Only if it is interesting. So..tell me, what is going on?” Zane asked, front paws together, claws tapping against each other and him smirking. “Sweetie is here in Adventure Bay and was spotted around the museum. She might be trying to steal stuff,” Ryder said, showing a video of Sweetie snooping about the museum. Zane scoffed with a confident smile. “Miscreant..I will deal with this insignificance. Now I'm a little motivated..,” Zane said his catchphrase. He whistled with his three-wheeler coming out of the floor and he got into his gear; a black and purple outfit with an ascot and his small pup pack. “Moby, stay here and give me eyes on Sweetie. Relay all the information on her movements,” Zane ordered. Moby pressed a few buttons on the keyboard, switching more cameras on. “You got it, boss. Let's ruin her day,” the merpup snickered. Zane stomped on the gas and raced out of the lair, focused on stopping the royal troublemaker.
At the museum, the Paw Patrol were already there when Zane showed up, parking and getting off his vehicle and walking up to Ryder with confidence. “Status report. Where oh where is she?” He said, like he was the leader of the operation. Ryder just chuckled and gestured at the museum. Zane didn't say anything as he walked right into the museum noticing a few traps set by Sweetie, making mental notes of where they were. “Oh Sweetie..come out and play..,” Zane said loudly and Sweetie walked out of the shadows annoyed. “You uncouth forest animal.. what are you doing here?” She said, annoyed and disgruntled. Zane chuckled and started to move slowly around the royal pup, subtly herding her closer to one of her traps. “I am here to stop your dishonorable behavior. How unfitting of one who calls themselves royalty. Just a miscreant,” he said with his confidence and sass. Sweetie scoffed, unknowingly getting closer to one of the traps. “You are just some wild thing acting civilized. Your only friend is some scraggly merpup who just grumbles about everything,” she replied with her typical sass. Sweetie's back paw then got into the trap with it activating and tying the spoiled pup up in a net. She squealed and barked, thrashing around and trying to get herself free. “Jackpot. Undone by your own trap. Tsk tsk tsk..,” Zane said as he then saw the Paw Patrol entered the museum. “Whoa…good work Zane,” Ryder said looking impressed. “Get me down!” Sweetie commanded. “My work here is done. There are more traps so be mindful,” Zane said as he started to walk off. “The cut worm forgives the plow,” he continued, looking back at Sweetie and giving her a sarcastic wink. “I'll get you for this you..you beast!” Sweetie barked as she was helped out of the trap by Ryder and Chase. “Farewell, Paw Patrol. This wasn't entirely unpleasant. The museum is safe all thanks to me,” Zane said with an inflated ego as he walked away. He got onto his vehicle and drove off as Chase just shook his head. “Always all about himself huh?” Chase scoffed.
Back at the lair, Moby saw how Zane dealt with Sweetie with the merpup enjoying it. “Classic,” he said to himself as he watched his boss driving back to the lair. PLUCK..again, a string like on a guitar pulling at his heart. Moby grumbled and tried yet again to ignore it but it was impossible. He couldn't deny it, he had feelings for Zane, deep feelings and he had to confess. But just how would he? He was scared..this whole situation was alien to him. McSquidly saw Moby's conflict but just watched as his grumpy friend touched his chest. “Zane..,” Moby muttered, testing the name and how it made him feel. A warmth, a pleasant yet foreign feeling washed over him like warm water and his heart pounded. “How..why..,” Moby muttered as he got off the chair and started to pace around. “I have to tell him..I have to..,” he continued, muttering to himself. McSquidly was worried about his friend as he's never seen Moby like this. Just then, Zane walked into the main room taking off his equipment and outfit. “That little troublemaker was fun to thwart!” Zane said proudly as he looked pleased with himself. Moby was fixated on Zane, just now realizing just how attractive he was. Well kept fur, in good shape, those blue eyes and handsome face and that confidence, that almost unreal confidence. “Yeah..yeah it was.. satisfying, boss,” Moby stammered out as he looked away trying to not look like he was checking Zane out. “Indeed. Indeed. Now then, I shall go prepare dinner for us,” Zane said, being brief before he walked into the kitchen area and started to make dinner. Moby had to find the right time to confess his feelings but he didn't know what Zane would think. He had to prepare for rejection but unbenounced to the merpup, the wolf dog's dim heart was also being pulled on, dragging him to the merpup. Yet, Zane ignored it perhaps believing he couldn't feel such things or misunderstanding what friendship feels like but there was more. Much more.
