8 The Dispersal
It had been a couple more months Bob thought, though he wasn't exactly sure of the time that had passed.
Both Felix and he had lost much of their long winter fur. He had joked to Felix that they could build another fox with the fur they had pulled off of each other. He felt more naked than usual of course, the shorter fur didn't cover very much of the parts, but at this point of his new life he didn't really care anymore.
All the kits were done nursing now and it had been pretty miserable feeling waiting for those nipples to stop producing fox milk. They had finally began to shrink back down to their normal size and heal as they had been a bit sore for quite some time, those kits had been a bit rough sometimes.
It had been a pretty nice summer though, Bob tried to enjoy it as much as he could with his furry family, though sometimes he found fox life to be boring he tried to make it more exciting by exploring different places including the house he came from. The kits had grown pretty big during that time and became pretty talkative foxes. Felix and Bob had tried to teach them as much as they could and Bob had even gave them a small bits of human knowledge that could possibly be useful including safety information such as avoiding being flattened on a road.
The kits all had their own little personalities/foxinalities? Lucky was definitely different than the other kits though. Bob had explained what had happened to him as a little kit but made sure he knew he was loved anyway.
Sadly his little foxes were not so little anymore, they were mostly full sized now and were leaving their home for longer and longer amounts of time. One by one each fox decided it was time to find their own mates and have their own families. The first fox to leave was Ace, Bob gave him a kiss on the nose and gave him some last second advice before he left. Ace could tell Autumn was sad and said "I will be fine, love you". As Bob watched Ace wander off he felt a little sick to his stomach but it was how fox life was.
The next fox to leave was Trixie, Bob gave her a kiss on the nose and gave her some advice that he thought could be useful. "I will always love you" Trixie said as she disappeared into the forest. Bob felt the same sick feeling.
The third fox to leave was Vixie, Bob kissed her on the nose and told her the same thing he had told the other kits that she could come visit if she needed help. Vixie said "I love you, I should be fine once I find a good dog fox". She slipped off into the woods like the others, Bob felt the usual sick feeling again, he is running out of kits he thought.
Finally it was Lucky's turn. Bob hoped that Lucky wouldn't have issues due to his start in life, he had always seemed to be fine within a few days of being found. Bob gave him a kiss on the nose as he repeated what he had told his other kits. "You need to find yourself a good vixen".
"I hope to find one as wonderful as you" Lucky said as he trotted away.
Bob just stood there, he had never felt like he was wonderful in any way even though Felix had always tried to make him feel wonderful. He always felt as if he had clunked through his whole life vixen parts included. It was such a sweet thing to say he thought.
Bob looked at Felix, he could tell it was just as hard on Felix as it was on him. He wasn't sure what happens now, would Felix leave too? He had heard that fox mates would sometimes separate until next mating season hoping their partner didn't bite the dust during that time. Bob didn't want to be alone though even just for a couple months.
Bob talked to Felix. "Do we have to separate now? I don't really want to be alone".
"Well there isn't any rules about it so I guess we don't have to", Felix had actually felt the same way.
Bob knew he had been very lucky with his fox life so far but understood bad things could happen at any time. "I want you to promise me that if something happens to me that you find another mate".
"Whoa, you just got serious in a hurry" Felix said, "Please don't worry about things like that, you will be fine".
Bob rubbed up against Felix and gave him a kiss on the nose as per usual. They wrestled around for awhile, it had been awhile since they had done that, it was definitely a fox thing but Bob liked it as much as Felix. After they had tired out they snuggled together outside of the shed. Bob normally would sleep inside of the shed but was trying to get more used to sleeping outside sometimes. It took awhile for Bob to relax enough to fall asleep.
