----- Mortem is the God of Death. Mortem is the shepherd of Whipvine's cycle.
Mortem receives the dead unto the unconscious noosphere for them to pass on away from the world and onto planes beyond. Mortem keeps the cycle intact and the dead safe from going where they are not supposed to go or being trapped in the world as haunting spirits. Mortem prevents the world from becoming an endless, bloated accumulation of senescent life and phantasmal essence. His presence is quiet, heavy, and ultimately merciful. In the Path of Anima, death is neither hidden nor sensationalized. Cremation is the most common funerary rite, but all Spiritists find comfort in the knowledge that with Mortem, all dead will find peace. In the tumultuous world of Whipvine, burials are none too common and remains are often lost. Spiritists will still hold remembrances to life and give the dead their place on memorials when they cannot recover the remains of their fallen. Mortem is among the most diligent and permissive Gods of death that any faith can have, a great privilege to Spiritists and one that is not lost on them.
