How about "Ina"? It comes from the -in- suffix in Esperanto, which means "female", but it includes the ending "-a", which means adjective. So it does not mean, literally, female, but "feminine", instead, without specifying whether the character really is male or female. Or you can combine it with the unofficial male suffix, "iĉ" (which can be written as "ich") and have them named "Inicha" (both masculine and feminine, although putting the "ich" at the end prioritizes the male part).

Another thing you can do is to grab the species name, put it in an automatic translator and keep changing languages until you find that sounds good. That is how I came up with Liontari's name. Or, instead of the species name, put in a defining characteristic.
