Been working it out for a while and I'm moving my commission prices closer to where they used to be. Those who I've spoken to about art before this will be getting the old price guide here. *LINK* This is still significantly lower than what I was charging several years ago, but I need the money, not the pride.
With that said, on to the relevant text!
Pricing is entirely negotiable and is not set in stone until an agreement is made. Once agreements on pricing are set there will be no more adjustments, unless the customer makes unreasonable demands or causes the cost of production to increase. If there is a need for a higher asking price work will cease until either the customer agrees on the new price, or an arrangement can be made. If the customer does not like the price and refuses to agree on what's asked, the job will be dropped. If a customer brings unnecessary drama to the dealings their job will be dropped and I will move on to the next order right away. If there is no next order, the job will still be dropped. If the customer goes incommunicado and doesn't respond to multiple emails, after three weeks I'll move on to another job with theirs being put into a hold queue until they turn back up. These prices are more of a guideline than the concrete rule.
The price can go up or even drop below what's cited here depending on circumstance. Prices rising massively are a rare occurrence and it only tends to happen when someone makes me waste materials by redrawing things over, and over, and over again by not telling me the finer details until after I've drawn something using traditional media. Wasting enough of my time on digital media can do it too, but has honestly happened only once before.
Circumstance will dictate whether I ask for 'any' cash up front, and I'm most likely to only ask for partial payment up front, unless I have another bad run of customers that abuse my trust. If that happens I'll return to asking for full payment up front. I've had too many people try cheating me to be completely trusting on commission payments unless I know you through other means. I don't know you, you play payments by my rules.
Subject matter will not be dismissed openly or ever with the public unless given permission. It will be decided whether or not the subject matter works for me in private discussion. The worst that can happen is I'll say no and I won't bring up the subject outside of that conversation ever. I don't like embarrassing people unless I have to.
These prices represent a single character image and, again, are more of a guideline than hard set prices.
