I'm probably biased but I got burned too much time by works that supposedly were "slow burn" but in the end it was just the author not knowing what to do and/or spinning their wheels to keep the cash flowing welp (also long works without an ending), at least with the first if it's something bad it's done already.

Sadly i know this feeling too well, i seen too many works getting in the progress not even in the slow burn category that just kept on going till suddenly its dead end, infinite hiatus, author is nowhere to found, money kept siphoned or nuked from orbit disappears.
