When in distress, be it physical or psychological, a kniit will often hide in a place of safety away from things outside their current control. A "sheltering" instinct, if you will. Knowing this about their species, in the event of such an incident family members and friends are tasked to send a trusted individual to address the problem. The only reason this didn't happen sooner here is because... well, Veera's the empress! To send the trusted individual is to not have faith in her!
