At first it was because I liked classic videogames. But when i first saw dim light but still wasn't able to escape the pit of depression i found a new reading for it. was all a metaphor of me and my despair and how i used videogames as a barrier to escape the world.
When i was at the bottom it was like the start of a game - everything felt so easy that i couldn't see that the true difficult was that i was powerless and being crushed. Then after some failed attempts, i was able to find the firsts "power ups" and "trinkets" - given as advices from specialists and psycologists, and was able to jump further reaching the most difficult challenges. Each castle was a tiny achievement, and each boss was the proof that i learned a lesson to come out of my situation.
Althought i felt like i was playing solo, i was never that way. yes, i was alone at it but it was matter of time i openned and asked for help - to my parents or to the specialists, at some point they acted like those "support characters" that many games give you the option but lot of people ignores but the "game of life" forces you to summon because they have the special ability you need to unlock the correct path or an option.
Today i can't really say i'm oout of depression, luckilly i fought and keep fighting everyday. and my only addiction are the screens, because i have now to learn that games were my fortress, and fortress is safety. But stay forever on safe ground wont fix me, and can even push me back. i have to life, i have to interact with reality, i have to be better.
