This story is about someone who was alone, depressive and had no social life, slowly crawling back to that hole, and finally becoming happy, with the Help Of Malo, He don't need her anymore, So yeah this is a happy ending, because this was the ending the Story wanted to tell.
You may not agree with it, that's your right, just like it's mine to see this as a good ending.

I wouldn't say a happy ending but more of a bittersweet one. Saying he doesn't need her anymore feel a bit harsh given she is (was) a sentient being and not a pet.
Also, i don't see any mention that it's the end so I don't think the story is over, maybe she could be brought back but without her memory or another plot twist like that :3

(｡ŏ﹏ŏ) It's bittersweet, but at least this instance of Mal0 stayed true to the original app purpose and completed the rehabilitation of her user successfully. That's not something that happens too often it seems. I suppose the only problem now is that Mal0 has left her fellow with a very high standard for any future companion to live up to. Too bad there's no easy way he'll find a compatible match again. (Unless the SCP cloning booth comes into play to generate a physical version of Mal0 for the guy, which has other issues, and still wouldn't keep the Foundation off their backs.)
