Sonic sat in bed quietly, looking into the darkness around him. The clouds passed outside, uncovering the moon. The light shined in brightly, lighting up his face and the still form of the hedgehog still sound asleep next to him. He looked at his lover quietly, afraid to disturb him.
“He needs his rest” Sonic thought. “He's been really busy lately.” He smiled a bit with appreciation at how much Scourge does for them. It wasn't long before Sonic thought about waking him again. He tried to resist the urge, but proved not to be strong enough.
“Hey Scourge, wake up. I want to ask you something.” Sonic whispered, nudging the sleeping hedgehog gently. The green hedgehog groaned slightly, rolling on his side and nuzzling his pillow. Sonic nudged him again. “Scourge, get up.” He didn't stir. “Scourge! Get up!” Sonic yelled, getting annoyed. He pushed the other off the bed.
Scourge landed with a thud, hitting the edge of the nightstand on the way down and baning his head off the hardwood floor. “Ouch!! The hell was that for?!” Scourge shouted, growling with rage. He stood up and glared at Sonic, crossing his arms.
“I-I wanted to ask you something...” he replied, tearing up. He was afraid of what Scourge was going to do to him. Scourge told him many times that it wasn't wise to wake him in the middle of the night and seeing that Sonic caused him pain as well, things weren't looking good. Sonic hid his face in his hands, crying quietly. “I-I'm sorry!...”
The emerald hedgehog rolled his eyes a bit. “You couldn't wait till morning? You HAD to wake me up knowing damn well that I don't get to sleep until 12:30 in the morning?!”
“I'm sorry! I-I was going to let you sleep, but I've been meaning to ask you about this for a long time! But you're never home!” Sonic shrieked.
“Don't raise your voice to me Sonic! I won't put up with it. Not at this hour.” He looked at the clock on his nightstand, two o'clock. “Now what did you want to ask me?”
“I-It's not important...” he replied. Scourge bared his pointed teeth, a low growl in his throat. He grabbed Sonic by his spines and pulled him so they were face to face. Sonic screamed in fear. “L-Let me go!”
“You woke me up to talk. I'm up. Now talk!” Scourge hissed.
“I-It can wait till later...” Sonic protested, his body starting to shake.
Scourge held him still and hit him across the face as hard as he could. Sonic cried out in pain. Scourge showed no mercy and hit him a few more times, causing Sonic's face to turn red with blood. Sonic cried out in agony with each hit.
“Stop! It hurts!” Sonic cried. The green hedgehog released his hold on him. Sonic sank down onto the bed and curled up. He shook fiercely, sobbing quietly. “Y-You're a monster!...”
“You're inconsiderate! Next time I won't be so nice! I'll beat you within an inch of your life if you wake me up again and then decide not to speak!”
“I-I hate you! I can't believe I married you!”
“If you don't like it, get the hell out of my house!”
Sonic didn't move. Scourge looked away from him. “You're pathetic... You can't even stand up against me.”
Sonic watched as he walked out of the room. When he was sure that he was safe, he got up and walked into the bathroom adjacent to the bedroom. He looked in the mirror, but had to look away quickly, unable to handle the sight of his own blood dripping down his face. He held his stomach, feeling like he was going to be sick. He stood still for a while until the feeling passed.
Scourge had gone downstairs to the kitchen. He sat at the table for a while, holding himself. “I-I did it again... I overreacted... H-He probably hates me...” He sighed and looked at the floor. “Better go help him... and apologize. Maybe he'll forgive me this time. It's a miracle he hasn't left yet.”
Sonic held his cheek, sobbing quietly. He sat down on the edge of the bathtub and stared at the floor. He jumped when he heard the door open. “D-Don't hit me again!” he cried out, cringing.
Scourge entered and set a first aid kit on the vanity. He kneeled down so they were eye to eye and caressed his cheek. “Relax, I won't hit you.” he whispered.
Sonic clenched his teeth and punched him in the face. “You're a jerk! You're cruel one minute and you expect me to be grateful the next!”
Scourge held his nose, knowing it was bleeding. “Okay, I deserved that. I'll admit that I did something I shouldn't have. I'm sorry Sonic. You deserve better than how I treat you.”
“Oh you think?” Sonic said sarcastically.
“At the very least, let me help you get cleaned up. We both know you hate the sight of blood.”
“Fine. But don't expect to sleep with me again for a while.”
“Fair enough.” He smiled a bit.
“What?” Sonic asked. “Why are you happy?”
“No reason. You just look cute when you're trying to be serious.”
“I am serious!”
“Heh, I know. But you still look cute.” Scourge leaned in and kissed him on the forehead. “Now let's get you cleaned up.”
Sonic blushed lightly and looked at the floor again. Scourge smiled warmly and went to work cleaning up the blood still oozing from Sonic's cheek. The blue hedgehog winced as the wound was cleaned.
“What did you want to talk about?” Scourge asked as he worked.
Sonic smiled sheepishly. “Scourge, did you ever think about having kids?”
“The thought has crossed my mind a couple times. Why? Have you?”
“Mhm...” Sonic replied, starting to cry again. “I want a baby... My brother, Manic, just had one...”
“We can't make babies Sonic. We're both guys.”
“But I want one!” He sobbed. “It's not fa-a-air!! I want a baby too!”
Scourge finished up and held him in his arms. He stroked his spines gently. “Shh... Tell you what, we can't make our own child, but I'll take you down to the orphanage and we can adopt one of those Chao, okay?” He moved back and caressed his cheek, tilting his head to look into his eyes. “Would that work for you instead?”
Sonic nodded, smiling a bit. “O-Okay, but I get to choose which one we take home.”
Scourge kissed his cheek tenderly. “You can have which ever one you want.”
