Mega Sized Maractus By Sokz
It had been hot lately, but that wasn't a problem for Macaras the Maractus. It also wasn't out of the norm, since she lived in the middle of a desert with rolling sand dunes as far as her eyes could see. Mountains of red and orange stone shimmered in the distance, their forms distorted by the summer heat. Sometimes she'd run into another Pokemon while hopping along the sand, but with how long the days were and the raw intensity of the sun, that was less and less common.
She didn't mind, though. Most other Pokemon found her a bit prickly, and they didn't appreciate her hugs, no matter how much she enjoyed giving them. A few Pokemon flew overhead, but she couldn't see anything more than their outline against the cloudless sky. Probably a flock of Mandibuzz if she had to guess. They could look pretty mean, but they never bothered Macaras much.
The same could not be said of the local Sandile. As she was hopping down one of the sand dunes, a trio of lumps dug their way through the ground at a quick pace, came right up to her, then sprayed her with sand as they whipped around.
Macaras wiped some of the sand off her body as the trio of Sandile swam away from her before poking out their heads. They had those pesky crocodile smiles as their eyes glittered in the sun. Before she could even fire a pin missile at the little jerks, they dove back under the sand and swam off, probably to harass some other unfortunate Pokemon.
Macaras sighed as she brushed off the last few particles. Some Pokemon are just such jerks in this part of the world. She wished someone would teach them a lesson, but the little squirts were a pain to catch and even more of a pain if they managed to bite you. And that was before they went crying off to their older siblings.
For now, she just had to put up with their pranks.
She continued through the desert, climbing one giant sand dune after another, searching for something to pique her interest. The desert had a lot of things she loved, the sun and the heat at the top of her list, but its lack of anything other than sand could grow a little dull. She smiled as she thought back to the strange rock formation she discovered a few weeks ago, and the underground cavern a month before that. She'd love to discover something cool again, but the desert is huge and there isn't a lot in it.
Just as she had the thought, she crested the top of another dune and saw something shimmering in the distance. She squinted in an attempt to make it out. Were those palm trees? Was that green grass and water? No, that didn't make any sense. Deserts weren't exactly known for their abundance of plant life.
But she was curious, so she set off in that direction. She expected it to disappear every time she climbed down a dune and it went out of view, but it reappeared every time she reached the top of the next. This thing wasn't a mirage, it was real!
Macaras gasped when she reached the edge of the spring. It was exactly what she thought. A small pool of crystal clear, glittering water rested in the sandy basin, surrounded by a small patch of damp soil, trees, grasses, and a few other Pokemon.
She smiled at the group of Numel clustered around the shoreline. They looked up at her with their silly, lazy expressions, then lowered their heads. A few bird Pokemon chirped in the trees and hopped around the ground, searching for tasty bugs burrowing in the dirt. Macaras mostly ignored them, her focus on the water.
How long had it been since she last had a drink? Over a month, by her best guess. As a Maractus, she could go a very long time without drinking, but she was still thirsty, and this summer heat made the oasis' cool water look more beautiful than a gemstone. She walked over to the edge of the water, lowered herself, then let the cool water touch her lips. It felt amazing as she drank.
Maybe a bit more amazing than it should have. She paused after a few deep sips as something strange happened in her body. It felt like a power was resonating through her, pumping through her very being in time with her heart. What was this? And why were the other Pokemon around the oasis staring at her?
She didn't know, but it was a great feeling. She wanted more, so she lowered herself and kept drinking. Gulp after gulp, she kept sucking in more water until the water level started to fall. When she paused again, something was definitely different. The Numel around the basin were smaller than they were a few seconds ago. They were about the same size as her before, but now they were a quarter of her height, maybe even smaller!
And the same thing was true for the trees and the rocks around the oasis. It wasn't that everything was becoming smaller, she was growing! There must be something about the water that infused her body and made her expand!
Macaras still wasn't sure why any of this was happening, but she knew she liked it and that she wanted more. She crouched down at the edge of the water and kept drinking. The more water that poured into her, the larger she became. She never felt satisfied, even as she drank the last remaining drops on the desert floor.
When she stood up again, she towered over the other Pokemon in the area. The trees barely came up to her waist as the Numel scampered around her base. A few bird Pokemon took to the sky as she shifted her weight and caused a tremor in the ground. When she turned, she moved her arm in a wide pattern and accidentally smashed one of the trees, the force shattering the bark without even the slightest bit of effort.
She felt bad for a second, but it was too fun to feel guilty for long. That crunch was so satisfying, and it was so easy! With a playful grin, she turned to the next tree and smashed it to bits as easily as the first.
This was fun! Macaras was usually a small Pokemon, and she had to avoid all of the mean and nasty bullies that liked to push others around. She had her thorny exterior, but other than that, she didn't have much to keep the stronger Pokemon away. Now though, she was the biggest Pokemon in the entire region! She smiled as she moved forward, climbing a sand dune with barely any effort. She looked out at the desert once she reached the top. Now, there was nothing in these sands that could push her around.
Maybe she should have some fun with this newfound size. With a smirk, she moved through the desert, plowing through sand dunes like they were small motes of dust and kicking over cactuses like they were no more than discarded twigs. She kept her eyes on the sand, searching for any signs of something interesting.
And then she saw it. Lines crisscrossed in front of her is the neat wavy pattern that could only come from one source. Those annoying little Sandile. She followed the pattern in the sand for a bit, moving far quicker than she ever had before thanks to her size, until she found the trio of tiny Pokemon clustered around a berry and nipping at each other. Their older sibling, a nasty old Krookodile, was also with them. The tiny Pokemon realized there was something much more important to worry about as soon as they were engulfed by Macaras' shadow.
For a moment, the trio of Sandile and the Krookodile just stared at her in wide-eyed shock. None of them had ever seen a Pokemon as absolutely massive as Macaras before. Not even the Steelix that sometimes ventured out from their underground caves were so huge! They knew they couldn't fight. In unison, the four Pokemon dove under the sand and tried to swim away. Macaras only smiled as she watched them go. They were quick and agile little guys, but they couldn't match her speed now that she towered over them.
She braced herself, took aim, then leapt into the air. The little Sandile and Krookodile didn't even see her coming as she slammed into the ground right on top of them. Sand and air blasted away from the point of impact as every bit of her thousand ton frame impacted the earth with a force greater than any Rockslide of Sand Tomb.
When the dust eventually cleared, she found herself standing even taller than before with no sign of the annoying pests remaining. Good. One less group of jerks to ruin her desert.
This was great! Not only was she big enough to trample through sand dunes like they were nothing, but now she could travel way further than she had ever gone before! She reached the red stone mountains after only an hour of walking and hopping over the sand. They weren't as impressive as she imagined they would be, especially since they looked kind of small, but the canyons between them were still fun to explore.
A few tiny Pokemon ran away from her as she moved. She didn't blame them. After all, she was now so huge that they barely looked like dots below her, their features blurred into the sand.
These canyons were interesting, though. The stone around her was striped with alternating colors, and when the wind blew, it made these funny howling and whistling sounds. It was almost ominous in a way, though it was hard to feel nervous when she was larger than any other Pokemon in the area.
She hopped forward again, only for the ground to shatter under her. Macaras' eyes widened as she felt the stone snap and pop under her weight before a sinkhole opened and dragged in all the sand and plants nearby. To her, the fall was only the equivalent of a few inches, but it was still surprising!
The inside of the cavern wasn't what she expected. The walls were smooth, made up of sandstone placed with care and decorated with old paintings. There were statues inside the rooms of old people and Pokemon in a funny style that she didn't recognize, and in the center of the room was an old coffin. How interesting! She never found something like this when she walked through the desert before.
Macaras reached into the tomb and delicately lifted the coffin. Though the rest of the ancient temple looked like it was thousands of years old, with cobwebs in the corners and paint discolored by time, this thing looked almost brand new. Its gold trim still shone in the light while the blue markings were vibrant.
It was small, barely even the size of one of her thorns, so she couldn't make out most of the details. She brought it closer to her face and squinted, but then two red lights lit up in its face! She almost jumped as four spectral hands emerged from the box and clawed at her skin.
This thing wasn't an ancient coffin, it was a Cofagrigus! She didn't know much about them, but she knew they were strong ghost types that could scare the life out of almost any
Pokemon. Well, any normal Pokemon at least.
She might have been afraid of this thing once, but now it looked kind of cute. It squirmed in her hands, unable to free itself as she looked down at it with a playful smirk. Its expression darkened as it squirmed harder, then it brought its hands together and condensed the shadows into a ball of energy. The blast shot from the Pokemon and smacked Macaras between her eyes.
She blinked. The attack tickled a little, but otherwise it really didn't do much. If this little ghost type wanted to be a jerk, she could handle it just like the other mean Pokemon in the desert. With a playful smile, she lifted the Cofagrigus to her face, opened her mouth, then tossed the bite size little pest inside.
It had a funny taste as she closed her lips and slid it around her mouth. It was a little earthy, a bit spicy, and sour. She liked it!
The battle was over with a single gulp. She glanced down at the tomb and saw a few other ghost types looking up at her from the shadows, including a Yamask and even a large Golurk. Then turned and ran deeper into the underground chambers as soon as they saw her smile.
Part of her wanted to let them go, but she reeaaaally liked how it felt when she jumped on the ceiling and cracked the stones. So that's what she did. She hopped forward and smashed through more of the underground chambers, breaking them and popping them with her unimaginable size. The Yamask could fire all the Shadow Balls they wanted, the hulking Golurks could smack her base with Hammer Arms and Phantom Force attacks, but it wouldn't change anything. She liked breaking their silly chambers apart, so that's what was going to happen.
With a final powerful jump, she lifted into the air, flipped forward, then landed with all the force of a crashing mountain. The entire temple complex was eradicated in the blast of sand.
Macaras had heard of human villages before, but she had never seen one herself. It was underwhelming. The little town rested at the edge of the desert and was populated by a few small houses, dusty cars, power lines, a couple of trucks, and a few wild Pokemon that liked the more urban environment. It really wasn't that impressive to her, but the houses felt fun to smash.
She really enjoyed the crunch as she slammed her hand through their roofs and blew their interiors to pieces. Their cars were also fun to play with. She picked up one of them and tossed it into the distance, then laughed as it bounced and tumbled through a few more buildings.
There was even a water truck on one of the bigger streets. She felt the cool liquid sloshing around inside when she picked it up, so she bit into it instead of tossing it away. She drank everything inside in a single gulp, then threw the truck over her shoulder.
The only thing she didn't like about the town was all the annoying trainers and their Pokemon.
``Go Hydreigon!'' One person shouted from behind her. ``Use fire blast!'' She felt the tickle of a fire based attack a few seconds later, but it was about as painful as a mild sunburn. No, even that was being generous. Maybe it was closer to a hot breeze blowing off the dunes, or when she hopped onto a rock that had been out in the sun all day. However she wanted to describe it, the attack did nothing.
A sandshrew near her feet scratched at her with its claws. Then a tiny scraggy ran at her and threw himself at her base with a full powered headbutt. It would have been cute if it weren't so mildly annoying.
All around her, people and Pokemon were making noise. Bird Pokemon squawked and chirped every time she broke a house, some humans were shooting guns at her, sirens were blaring from every direction, and now helicopters were flying around her head.
Playing with this town was fun and all, but now it was getting too annoying. She had a better idea. Why not get rid of it all in one big attack and move on to some place that wasn't as irritating?
Yes, that was a perfect idea. But what move should she use? What move would have the power she needed to wide out the entire town, while still looking cute and stylish?
Her face lit up as the answer came to her. Of course, it had to be Petal Blizzard! She spun in a great circle with her arms wide and her body shifting with the song inside her. Petals of power formed around her and took to the sky in a mad flurry. They slammed into the houses and ripped them apart, dove into the street, blasted Pokemon into the distance, and completely obliterated the helicopters overhead. Soon the air was full of the pink and green glowing petals as they spun and twirled in the wind.
When the gust finished and the explosions faded, all that was left was a smoldering crater at the edge of the desert with a few last glowing petals spinning to the ground. Perfect. Now she could find something else fun to play with.
Macaras hummed to herself as she moved along the edge of the desert. To her right, the sand stretched off into the distance with great puffy clouds floating overhead, just like she always remembered. To her left, the sands gave way to grasslands and eventually mountains in the distance. She encountered a few human villages as she went, but they were less and less fun to play with as she grew in scale. Soon it took only a few jumps to break every house, then it was a quick punch from her hand, then she was destroying them without even realizing it.
She wondered how big she would grow. When it started, she imagined herself becoming as tall as the sand dunes, but now they were barely the size of ripples below her. When she reached upward, she could just barely feel the cold spray from passing clouds.
As she moved her hand through one of those white puffballs, a glint sparked in the distant sky. She squinted as it moved closer. It almost looked like a miniature sun, or a star that burned as it traveled through the sky, except it was coming right at her.
Then it dove and circled around her head in a great ball of flames. She watched as the Pokemon's power surged and the fires around its body glowed in an even more intense heat. Macaras' eyes widened in amazement as she realized who this was. Moltres, one of the legendary bird Pokemon!
Macaras was almost giddy with excitement. It was rare to see Moltres in the desert, but whenever it appeared, it was a wonderful event. Sometimes the legendary Pokemon would swoop down and burn a section of sand with such heat that it turned to glass! It could scare off any nasty Pokemon and burn so brightly that the night was almost as illuminated as the day!
When she was small, Macaras practically idolized Moltres. Now the legendary Pokemon was here, spiralling around her. It was one of her biggest dreams come true. She smiled as the bird Pokemon flew in front of her face, its wings still burning and its body glowing with power and radiance. What did it want with her? Maybe it wanted to join up and stomp through all these annoying human villages!
Her answer came in the form of a flamethrower against her chest. Macaras' happy expression fell as she looked down at the small patch of soot where the legendary Pokemon's attack landed. She wasn't sure if she was more disappointed that Moltres tried to attack her, or the fact that the attack was so... pathetic. She didn't even feel it! The fire blast from the tiny dragon back in the town was more impactful!
She shook her head. Well, maybe a quick battle would be fun.
Before Moltres could ready another underwhelming move, Macaras brought her arms together and caught the flying bird Pokemon between her hands. With a quick flick, she slammed it into the ground where it formed a deep and burning crater.
She waited for the Moltres to fly back into the air and attack her, but it looked like it was knocked out. Macaras sighed again. She wanted the battle to have a bit of back and forth, that's why she didn't even use a real move! But even a flick of her wrist was too much.
A blast of cold bristled her shoulder, followed by a spark of electricity on her backside. She turned as two more legendary Pokemon flew away from her in a beautiful pattern of lightning bolts and billowing snowflakes.
Macaras marveled at the sight for a moment. They looked a lot like Moltres, but with different elemental abilities. Maybe they'd put up more of a fight!
She readied herself as the two legendary pokemon dove toward her, their bodies erupting with elemental fury. Zapdos let out a bolt of Thunder while Articuno brought down the full might of a Blizzard. Between them, they could take out almost any Pokemon in the world with those two moves!
But Macaras barely felt it. She sighed again as the cold air blew over her chest with as much impact as a breeze on a cool night. The Thunder didn't even do that much. She shook her head as she waited for their attacks to finish, then she readied her answer.
She'd just have to show these three what a real move looked like. With a smile, she spread her arms and turned her chest to the sun. Its radiance filled her with strength as she absorbed its power. When she couldn't hold any more, she turned toward Zapdos and Articuno, aimed, and then let loose a beam of raw solar fury.
The attack cut across the landscape, tore through the air, then cut clouds in half overhead. The explosion that followed was so bright and sparkling that she had to cover her eyes as sand turned to glass and the land was ripped apart. The sky sizzled with energy as burning chunks of earth were thrown into the air, only to land like flaming meteors a few seconds later. The earth was scorched, and everything lay in complete devastation thanks to her Solar Beam.
She smiled. Now that was a cool move.
The human village was a bit underwhelming, but the city looked interesting as she approached. The ground trembled as she moved, cracks and fissures forming from every shift of her weight as air currents were generated from her swinging hands. Most Pokemon gave up trying to attack her. She was simply too huge for any of them to leave a scratch. They'd have a better chance trying to fight a mountain than her!
Everything seemed small now that she was tall enough to break the ground just by moving, but the skyscrapers at the heart of the city were almost big enough to be interesting. She paused when she reached the outskirts of the metropolis. There were a lot of small buildings lining the outside with impossibly narrow streets between them. Even if she tried to suck in her belly, there was no chance she'd be able to slip through them. So why bother trying? With a smile and a cheerful hum, she pushed her way forward and obliterated the buildings on the outskirts of the city. At least they made a bunch of fun cracks and pops as she went. In fact, there were a lot of interesting textures! The power lines running under the street buzzed and surged as they were ripped from the concrete by her movements. Glass rang out in a delightful symphony of shattering sounds when she smashed her arms through one of the towers. Train horns blared before they slammed into her body and crumpled. Cars honked their horns as she moved through the gridlocked streets and trampled everything under her base. This was kind of fun. She giggled as she spun around with her arms extended. Her hands slammed through towers as though they were made of brittle glass and sent debris raining in a wide arc. Glass, concrete, and all the other little bits that made up the insides of the skyscrapers tore through the air before smashing into the ground. She giggled as the towers fell over and crashed into the ones nearby, causing a chain reaction that leveled countless more.
These humans really weren't that good at building things.
She continued playing through the city, pushing through buildings while slamming her hands through others, until she reached the tallest tower in the heart of the metropolis. It was almost the same size as her! She leaned forward and squinted at its glass facade. People and Pokemon darted around the inside of it in terror as her face took up the entirety of their world. A Machoke threw a stack of papers into the air as he rushed for the stairs while a Scrafty in a business suit stole the stapler from his coworker's desk. A middle manager Nidoking shouted for the others to get back to their seats while flocks of zubat dove out the windows.
There was so much interesting complexity in these buildings! But they were more fun when they were destroyed, so that's what was going to happen. Macaras booped the building with her hand, then watched as the steel skeleton bent, the glass shattered, and the entire thing collapsed under its own weight.
She was ready to hop and skip through the rest of the city when she felt a blast of hot air on the back of her head. A cluster of fighter jets flew past her as they readied another set of missiles. Macaras smirked at their attempts. At least she could actually feel that one.
How should she deal with these little gnats? Swat them out of the air? Blast them with a Pin Missile? As she contemplated her best course of action, another blast of flame near her base drew her attention.
A very angry Machamp was throwing a series of lightning fast punches against her skin. Annoying. Then there was a blast of fire as a mega-evolved Charizard circled in front of her belly. A Dragonite used Fire Punch on one of her arms, then an entire flock of Talonflame joined in with a series of attacks around her head. Then a cluster of tanks drove around a corner and launched a full attack. And what was that in the distance? She squinted as more and more Pokemon joined the battle against her.
Was that Ho-oh!?
Macaras shook her head. One Pokemon was fine. She could handle two. Three were pushing it. This miniature army of annoyances was too much for her to deal with. She concentrated on her power and let it flourish inside of her. The air whipped around her body as she let the energy build. The sun blazed overhead, the sky began to glow, then she let her arms spread to the side as she danced and moved in an adorable spin.
The petals from her Petal Blizzard attack were beautiful, but the glowing petals from her Petal Dance were even more radiant. A single one could take out a skyscraper, but there were thousands forming in the air. Each one sparkled like a glowing star ready to descend to the earth, carried on air currents and the natural motions of Macaras' dance.
The city erupted in explosions of beautiful starlight. Pokemon were thrown into the air as the attack knocked them skyward. Streets were blown up, skyscrapers fell, train tracks were ripped out of their foundations. Soon, the entire world was a glittering display of destruction as her petals rained down and left everything in ruin.
From the glittering coastline of the ocean to the last traces of the desert behind her, the world was covered in brilliant erupting petals.
The world looked so small as Macaras traveled across its surface. She left a burning trail in her wake as she crushed stone into magma. Hills were invisible to her, villages broke apart without her even noticing, and all but the tallest mountains were barely more than bumps in her path. She had grown to the size of a true titan, her scale now measured by continents.
Every now and then something would try to stop her. She thought she smooshed a Groudon a little while back, but it could have been any fiery Pokemon standing on top of a
burning volcano. The oceans trembled as she danced through them, causing huge waves that sank the humans' battleships and destroyers before they had a chance to fire off more than an initial volley.
She thought she saw Lugia at one point, but it disappeared. Maybe she accidentally swatted it out of the air when she moved her arm. Maybe it just thought better of trying to stop her and flew away. That would make it the smartest Pokemon she found so far!
Macaras giggled to herself as she thought about it. The world once looked so big and intimidating to her, but now she was the biggest thing that ever existed. Human nuclear weapons just bounced off her thick skin. Ghost Pokemon didn't look so scary. Fire Pokemon couldn't even make her sweat.
She was above all of that now, literally. When she saw a city, all she had to do was reach down and give it a poke. When she came to a forest, her mere presence lit the trees on fire. What could stop her now? Nothing.
And that was exactly how she liked it. Now she was free to hop and skip across the face of the Earth as much as she liked. She could spin and twirl, creating hurricanes with her movements. If she wanted to shoot more petals into the air, there was nothing these Pokemon could do except watch the glittering light show with wonder before everything around them was destroyed.
She was a god of this world, the most powerful Pokemon to ever exist, and everyone on the planet would know it.
