The boy serving them is a former bacha bazi (if you want to keep some faith in humanity do NOT look into those - suffice to say, it sucks to be one), who is reacting to his freedom by trying to make up for the three years he spent in that awful role. To do this he is trying to seize what's left of his childhood. To this end, he has decided he is going to have the ideal boy life - and in his mind, this means he should have dogs.
Thus he has decided the werepups are HIS DOGGIES (no, they don't get a say in it, and no, it doesn't change anything that they're clearly people, doggies need a boy to own them, it's how the world works) and since they are HIS DOGGIES he gets to name them (nevermind that their parents already named them). And he is... not very creative, so he's named them after foods common in his (Tajik-coded) culture based on their attributes, and recently decided to let each of them experience what he has named them after.
Hence, the pup with a ponytail gets Halva "because your fur is black and white in puppy form, and you're sweet, so you're like Chocolate Halva!", the curly haired one gets Kulcha (buttery Tajik flatbread) "because you have yellow (blond) fur in puppy form and are super soft like Kulcha!", and the vain "fox" gets "sabzi" (carrots) "because you have orange fur and you seem to get horny all the time so it's like you have a carrot in your pants!" - the realization is a double whammy for our vain little fox, as he both gets to realize his "cool nickname" just means "carrot" AND it means he gets vegetables, which he hates.
