From Contests to Continents

By Sokz

The contest was close, and every Pokemon was trying their hardest. Ballonpon the Jigglypuff was the last competitor. If she wanted to win, she'd have to give this contest everything she had!   She hopped onto the stage with a dazzle as the crowd of Pokemon cheered her on. She smiled, spun, jumped in the air, danced across the wooden boards, then unleashed a dazzling display of pink lights and glitter. This move always made her popular amongst the contest judges. No one had a better Fairy Power than her.

Plus, it went perfectly with the surrounding foliage. The contest was held on an outdoor stage right at the edge of the Glimwood Tangle, with tall trees looming over the audience and glowing mushrooms sprouting from the shadows. It was the natural home of fairy Pokemon, and a fairy-type move looked perfectly at home.

The crowd cheered as she finished her dance, bowed, then hopped off to join her place with the rest of the competitors. Hopefully, it was enough to secure her a victory.

She watched and cheered on the rest of the contestants until the contest came to an end and they were all called back to the stage. A Snubbull went first, and though he had a wonderful juggling act, he tripped at the very end. The Swirlix was a crowd pleaser, but she was disqualified after being distracted by some food in the audience and walking off the stage. Mr. Mime did amazingly well with his magic act, but his impressions didn't go over well with the judges. That just left Ballonpon and an Alcremie, who were both close to perfect.

The judges deliberated, went back and forth, then finally came to a consensus. Ballonpon expected the lead judge, a Clefable, to deliver the announcement. Instead, a new Pokemon flew to the front of the stage with a glimmer and sparkle in her path.

Ballonpon didn't recognize the Pokemon. She was beautiful, though, with a small frame, an adorable star-shaped head, bright yellow colorations, and teal ribbons hanging from her points. Her movements were mesmerizing, and her eyes held a playful, almost mischievous glint.

``It is my honor,'' the Pokemon said with a shimmer, ``to announce the winner of the contest. Though it was close, your winner is...'' she paused to build the tension, then let it go in a flash of lights. ``Ballonpon!''

Ballonpon bounced forward, overjoyed and delighted. She knew she was amazing, and she worked hard on her performance, but being named the winner still felt wondrous. She nodded at the Alcremie, who nodded back gracefully, then stepped toward the judge.

``Thank you,'' Ballonpon said. As she came closer, it finally clicked. This was Jirachi, a mythical Pokemon that rarely appeared in the world! ``I... I'm stunned,'' Ballonpon said, her eyes wide. ``It's an honor to meet you, Jirachi. But, if I can ask, why are you here judging a silly contest?''

Jirachi's smirk became even more mischievous as she answered, ``I have a special prize for you, and it's way more fun to give it to you in person. I hope you love it.'' She turned to the crowd and continued. ``For our first-place participant, we award this beautiful red ribbon, emblazoned with a heart-shaped clasp.'' She helped Ballonpon put it on. ``Look at that, it suits you perfectly.''

``Thank you,'' Ballonpon said. ``Thank you so much!''

``You're welcome,'' Jirachi said with a wink. ``Just make sure to have fun with it.''

There's something about winning a contest that always put a bounce in Ballonpon's step. She loved performing for people and showing off all of her hard work, and when it paid off and she came in first place, there was no better feeling in the entire world. Especially when it came with a beautiful bow like this one!

She hopped down the town street, nodding to all the Pokemon who caught her eye. But what should she do now? She had traveled across most of the region and won all the contests in these small towns, so all that was left were the big cities. Though she was confident, the concept of competing against professionals was enough to make any Pokemon a little nervous.   Maybe she should try it. Or maybe she should wait a little longer and make sure every part of her was perfect. She could always put it off until she was a bit bigger, right?

She wasn't sure, and she kept flopping back and forth in her mind. Should she push herself and try out the big competitions, or stay in her safe small towns? What if she failed? That could be embarrassing. But if she succeeded, there?d be no better result in the entire world!   As she walked through the town, completely lost in thought, she didn't notice how heavy her footsteps became. She didn't notice other Pokemon moving out of her way as they looked on with shock, or cracks forming in the pavement below, or the way the buildings shifted and trembled every time she moved forward.

A car alarm blared as her foot accidentally swung into the vehicle. Normally, it would have been a simple mistake without any real consequences, but instead, the car rolled onto its side as bits of metal and broken glass flew across the street.

Ballonpon froze as she looked around the town. Things seemed smaller than they did a few minutes ago. A lot smaller! For a moment, she stood in place, as awestruck as the other Pokemon around her. Then she felt power surging into her body. It felt similar to her fairy power, and it fed off the natural energy of the surrounding forest, transforming her and making her grow. The longer she stood there, transfixed by the change, the bigger she became.

It must be the ribbon! When she first put it on, she felt a slight tingle from the gemstone but assumed it was a bit of residual energy from her moves. She never expected the accessory to have the power to make her grow!

She giggled as she backed away from the car, only to accidentally slam into a building just about her size on the other side of the street. ``Oh, sorry!'' She said as she stepped away from the structure. Its wooden frame sagged as its windows and decorations shattered.   A very bristly Grimmsnarl ran out from the building, looked at the damage, then turned to her in a rage. ``Look at what you did!'' he shouted.

``I said I was sorry,'' Ballonpon answered.

``Sorry isn't going to fix my shop! Why are you even big? Don't you know how much damage you're causing, and how much of a nuisance this is? I bet you're one of those Pokemon who came here for the contests. I keep telling people to stay in their lane and not cause a fuss, but then they go and do this! That's it, I'm fed up with it! I'm marching right down to that stage and demanding a stop to these contests once and for all!'' ``No wait, you can't do that!'' Ballonpon said.

``Ha. Watch me!'' The Grimmsnarl walked around her.

Ballonpon hesitated for a moment, unsure what to do. Normally, a big, scary Pokemon like a Grimmsnarl would make her want to retreat and back away. But now that she was as large as a house, this other Pokemon just seemed mean and nasty. Why should she have to put up with jerks like that?

A slight smile tugged at Ballonpon?s cheek as she aimed, then launched her foot into the tiny Pokemon. With a scream, the Grimmsnarl was sent hurtling from the kick, his body tumbling until it hit the trees, burst through the canopy, and continued out into the sky beyond until it vanished in a blink.

Ballonpon brushed her pink bow. Maybe being big could be fun.

At first, Ballonpon tried not to cause too much destruction. She stepped lightly as she walked through the town, avoided most buildings, and gave the fleeing Pokemon enough time to scamper out of the way. Then she felt another burst of size... then another... then another!  When she reached five stories tall, it felt pointless to try to be careful. Every time she took a step, the ground trembled, the concrete broke apart, Pokemon screamed as though she were an invading monster, and glass windows shattered. It was getting a little annoying.   She flinched when she swung her foot a little too wide and accidentally kicked a small Pokemon shop to pieces. The structure crumbled the moment her body made contact with it. Walls shattered, wooden supports cracked, then the entire thing erupted in a mass of dust and splinters.

And of course, everyone blamed her for it. How was she supposed to walk through the town when everything was so darn delicate? Maybe she shouldn't worry about it so much. After all, these shops and houses looked like toys to her now, and it wasn't like the owners could do much to stop her if she wanted to have some fun.

Ballonpon felt a smirk cross her face. Yeah, why shouldn't she enjoy her new size a little? She took aim, jumped into the air, then SLAMMED down on a small house in front of her. The nearby trees shook with the impact as the house's frame practically evaporated under the force of her stomp. And the crunch! It felt so satisfying, like stepping on a crunchy leaf during the fall.

She wanted to do it again, so she did. STOMP, her foot came down on another house, CRACK, she kicked through a collection of giant mushrooms, SNAP, she bounced her belly into an immense tree and broke its trunk as though it were a toothpick. The ancient tree crumbled and fell, taking out a few more houses as its trunk slammed into the earth.

It was impossible to do anything but laugh as a gaggle of tiny Pokemon scrambled out of its way. They looked like ants trying to avoid a falling branch.

She noticed a few of them running around her feet. They all looked so tiny, so small... It was amazing to think that she was the same size as these bugs just a few minutes ago. Maybe this transformation was some sort of dynamaxing? She had seen a few giant Pokemon before, but they were usually clouded in a spooky aura, not something as pink and radiant as her bow.   With a shrug, she concluded that she didn't really care. Whether it was dynamaxing or not didn't really matter. The only important thing was that it made her huge and that she was having fun.

A smile and a few terrifying stomps brought her to the center of the small town. From there, she could stand and look over the entire area. Her playing had destroyed most of the significant buildings and left a pockmarked landscape of footprints, but there were still a few things standing. Maybe she'd break them just for fun, then she'd go through the forest and find something else to play with.

At least that was her plan until she felt something tickle the lower part of her belly. She glanced down to see a small Pokemon slam against her pink skin, bounce off, then twist in the air to land elegantly on his feet. A Medicham! Ballonpon always liked these Pokemon, since they had beautiful pink colors. Plus, their acrobatics were interesting to watch.

This one, however, was trying to attack her! As soon as he landed, the Medicham rushed forward, jumped into the air, and slammed another High Jump Kick into her belly. It didn't feel like anything more than a soft poke, but still!

Ballonpon reached down to grab the little pest, but he jumped out of the way too quickly. The Medicham ran around the giant Jigglypuff's foot and launched an attack against her body. This was getting annoying.

She turned and tried to step on the gnat, but once again it jumped out of the way at the last second. At least the resulting shockwave and burst of air were enough to throw it backward into one of the buildings.

If she wanted this to be a fair fight, Ballonpon could have played a drawn-out game where she kept stomping around and sending the little guy flying, until it eventually became too tired to dodge. But that wasn't fun. No, she wanted to end this silly play-fight in one big, dramatic move.

And she had a pretty good idea of how to do it. With a radiant smile, she leapt as high as she possibly could into the air until she soared clear over the tops of the forest trees, flipped a few times just for style, then descended belly first. There was nowhere for the tiny Medicham, or any Pokemon in the city, to run. Her Slam attack was strong enough to leave the entire region in ruins.

And that's exactly what happened. Her belly crashed into the ground, and with it came an unleashed force that tore through the remaining houses, sent Pokemon flying into the distance, and even smashed trees all around her for miles. By the time the dust settled, not a single building remained standing, and not a single Pokemon was left to battle.

That meant it was time to find something else fun to play with!

She moved through the forest more easily than she expected. Though the trees were almost half her height and were probably as old as the dirt their roots spread through, they cracked as soon as her belly touched their side and tumbled over as though they were toy blocks set up just to be kicked down. Small Pokemon sprinted from her path, but even the radiant Ponyta were barely visible anymore. Had she grown larger? She must have. Now she was almost three hundred feet tall!

Eventually, she kicked her way to the edge of the woods. When she looked back, a

massive clear area of crushed trees and broken underbrush lay behind her. It wasn't the most beautiful thing in the world, but at least now she could move around freely.

The countryside spread out around her, though it was so much smaller than she remembered. The hills were barely more than a slight wobble in the earth, and even the far-off mountains seemed like tiny ridges. She could do anything she wanted.

Might as well wander around and try to discover something interesting! With a smile and a hop to her step, she lifted her foot, jumped forward, then brought it down with a catastrophic crash on the dirt road below. She didn't even notice the tiny trainer or his party of Pokemon desperately trying to get out of the way.

At first, Ballonpon followed a river that flowed down from the mountains and snaked its way through the countryside. The muddy area around the flowing stream was a lot of fun to stomp through, and the spray of water felt great on her feet. Whenever she stomped down, hundreds of gallons of water crashed against the side of her foot and were forced to take different directions, often resulting in fields being flooded and houses being swept away.

Even if she didn't step on these tiny villages, they were still destroyed by her mere presence.

She continued along the river until she came to a huge bridge that spanned one cliffside to the other, packed with honking cars and a few Pokemon trying to cross on foot. Ballonpon leaned closer and marveled at the complicated craftsmanship put into the bridge, from the steel struts to the mesh bottom. It was a real masterwork of human engineering!

But it was also in her way. With a cute karate chop, she snapped the bridge in half without any effort. Car horns blared, trunks honked, and Pokemon screamed as they plunged hundreds of feet to the riverbed below, followed by the buckling and snapping of the bridge.

With a single attack, the structure collapsed completely.

Ballonpon was free to continue on her way with a smile.

She entered an area packed with fields and hills. Wooloo grazed upon the grass (or at least she assumed they were Wooloo since they were tiny white dots) while a few cars drove across the long country roads. Ballonpon had some fun smashing through the concrete paths, but then her attention was drawn by a train running close by.

She loved the train when she was smaller, and it was by far the best way to get across the region. Now though, it just looked like a silly worm zigg-zagging through the field. It gave her a fun idea.

Ballonpon hopped after the train and caught up with it in only a few steps. She reached down, grabbed onto the last car, then simply lifted it off the track. It dangled from her hand like a wiggly string made of metal, just begging to be played with.

She spun it around in a great circle, making the engine reach almost impossible speeds as the Pokemon still trapped inside were forced against the walls by the acceleration. When she was done spinning, she debated throwing it into the distance, but decided on something more interesting.

She placed the end of the first train car in her mouth, tightened her lips around it, then gradually sucked the rest of the train into her maw as though it were an extra-long noodle. Once it was all in, she chewed it a bit, tasted all the unique things to taste, then gulped it down.

Ballonpon reached a small town a little after her snack. It looked so tiny, even smaller than a playset or a bunch of blocks. That meant she grew even bigger while stomping across the countryside.

What should she do? She could stomp through the houses and blow them away with her footfalls, she could scoop up the town and eat it whole, or she could roll across it and flatten everything with her body. There were so many options!

As she was debating what to do, the clouds darkened above her head, and a bolt of lightning flashed down into a portion of the town across from her. A red aura formed as a Pokemon emerged and grew larger, then larger, then larger, its body changing as it

Gigantamaxed into its ultimate form!

It was barely a tenth as tall as Ballonpon, but still.

The Gigantamaxed Toxtricity lifted itself to its feet and roared into the heavens, calling down a few titanic bolts of lightning that struck the town and countryside around it. People and Pokemon alike scurried away, though to Ballonpon, it still looked like a tiny little bug squeaking in front of her. It was almost cute.

The Toxtricity charged forward with no regard for the town. Its feet crashed through buildings as it moved, while the lightning from its body caused an uncountable number of fires. When it reached her, it jumped into the air and tried to slam into her belly.

Ballonpon brushed it aside with a giggle. The Toxtricity tumbled from the air, slammed into the ground, slid into a handful of houses and broke them apart, then finally came to a stop. Undeterred, it pushed itself up and roared into the sky.

This time, it used its ultimate move. Lightning crashed around it until it had absorbed an untold amount of energy, then it released the attack in a burning arc of pure power! The G-Max Stun Shock was one of the most powerful moves a Pokemon could learn... but it barely felt like a tickle as it shot into Ballonpon's belly.

She giggled as the lightning cleared, leaving Toxtricity breathing heavy. Her turn. She thought about what move to use, then decided on one of her favorites. Back when she was doing contests, she always had this move tucked in her back pocket just in case she needed to pull off something extra special.

She cleared her throat, then let her song echo into the world! Normally, her singing voice was enough to elicit love and admiration from those who heard it, but now that she was a titanic figure looming across the sky, the power of her voice sent a shockwave careening through the town. Her high notes shattered glass for hundreds of miles, her low notes shook the ground and ripped houses to pieces. Then, when she hit the final note and let the true force of her Hyper Voice fly, it created a shockwave akin to a wall of force traveling at the speed of sound. The town was ripped apart completely, the clouds were forced away, and not a single thing was left standing.

By the time the clouds cleared and the lightning faded, the ground was a scorched warzone of lightning strikes, fires, and burnt earth. Nothing was left standing for miles, and there was no Pokemon to fight against her. But on the bright side, her bow was spotless and still sparkled!

She did a cute little spin, then plopped down and looked for her next plaything. A nearby city caught her eye. Maybe it would be a little less delicate than all these silly towns.

Who would have thought that a candy shop would taste like candy? Ballonpon smiled as she sat at the edge of the city with a handful of buildings in her hand. She had just gulped down a relatively small store that sold all types of desserts. Though the distinct flavors all blurred together as she crunched the shop into tiny pieces, it was still lovely.

What should she eat next? She looked down at the buildings held in her hand. There was a convenience store, a Pokemart, a few restaurants, and a Pokecenter. The restaurants would probably taste the best, so she carefully picked them up, one by one, and tossed them into her mouth. Yep! They were delicious!

Now, if only these annoying helicopters would stop flying around her head. They were almost as annoying as gnats! She squinted at one as it came a little too close, then swiped her hand at the flying vehicle. It broke apart as soon as she made contact, then tumbled to the city in a fireball. The explosion it made as it crashed into the street was almost impressive, but nothing compared to the move she used in her last fight.

A few Pokemon tried to stop her as she had her snack, but they were barely more than an annoyance. Even the Dynamaxed Pokemon were only an inch or so tall by comparison, so she defeated them with a flick, a stomp, or by gobbling them up as another snack.

The Gigantamaxed Charizard tasted particularly spicy.

Once she was finished with her snack, she popped back to her feet and stomped deeper into the city. Buildings crumbled as she stomped near their foundation, while others burst apart the moment her belly bounced into them. After a bit, she curled up into a ball and rolled through the city without care for her path. The destruction was unparalleled as countless buildings, houses, parks, streets, and trains were flattened and broken under her body.

When she was done, she looked at the paths of destruction she had carved with glee. If she were careful, she could probably draw a pretty picture by doing something like that.   As she was thinking about what to draw, an explosion against the side of her face caught her attention. Once again, it wasn't enough to hurt, but it was enough to annoy her.

An entire battalion of planes and helicopters moved through the air a little bit away from her. These weren't the normal vehicles she dealt with before. They were bigger, better armored, and outfitted with enough guns and missiles to take down a small nation. Thankfully, none of them was large enough to even leave a scratch.

She was ready to blow them out of the sky when she saw something else flying in. Four massive helicopters supported what looked like a Pokemon made completely out of metal! She had never seen something like that before, and she took a moment to marvel at the robot's complex design.

The helicopters released the guide wires and dropped the titanic robot onto the ground with a massive impact of dust and debris. Its eyes flashed to life in a blinding red light, then it roared as though it were alive.

Baalonpon gasped as she finally remembered where she had seen this creature before.

It was MT2, a super high-budget project by the military designed to handle Gigantamaxed Pokemon when there were no other options! She had only seen it used once, and it left half the region destroyed!

Funny... it looked a lot bigger on T.V. Now it was barely a tenth of her height, just like the Toxtricity before it. She sighed. For a second, she thought she was going to have a real battle to play around with.

MT2 didn't wait. It unleashed a flurry of attacks in a burst of energy. The first was a Dragonpulse that vaporized countless buildings in front of it before the blue and purple blast bounced off Ballonpon's belly. Then it burned away a wide arc of homes and houses with a flamethrower. Once again, it was less than effective.

It moved forward, kicking down buildings and reducing the city to rubble, before unleashing a mega-powered thunderbolt. The city lit up as electricity flooded into every bulb and light for miles, and then died as MT2's power finally ran out.

Ballonpon smiled once it was done, since its attacks were pretty and didn't even leave a scratch. She then hopped over to it, reached down, plucked the tiny palm-sized robot from the street, and tossed it into her mouth.

Surprisingly, it tasted almost as sweet as the candy store! She wondered why they could be as she chewed it, broke it apart, then swallowed it in a gulp.

But that wasn't the end of her battle. The rest of the military still swarmed around her and unleashed everything they had, ranging from high-caliber bullets that couldn't even pierce the top layer of her skin to hellfire missiles that stung less than a loose ember.

It would take an eternity to swipe them all out of the sky, so she did something different. She gathered her power until pink energy radiated around her body, then she released it in a

glittering, sparkling wave of pure death. Her Fairy Power bounced across the ground, ripped through buildings, tore through helicopters, and turned the landscape into a swathe of pink fire.

Everything was so fun and interesting from this scale! After dealing with the last city and all the annoying armies trying to attack her, Ballonpon skipped across landscapes, slammed into forests, turned deserts to glass, and eventually stood so tall that immense mega skyscrapers weren't even as big as her foot.

She didn't even notice the towns that she obliterated with each step anymore. Mountains were barely anything more than an annoyance as she kicked her way through them, and even the deepest parts of the ocean were shallow enough for her to walk across. Plus, the giant waves that followed her movements were so fun to watch flood coastlines for miles and miles.   Ballonpon felt her belly growl after a few hours of playing. She paused when she came to another city, one filled with tall buildings and flashing lights. She knelt down, opened her mouth, and let her tongue move across the surface of the Earth, scooping up millions of Pokemon along with roads, buildings, and countless vehicles. They all blended together in her mouth as she slowly chewed it into a paste, then swallowed.

It wasn't as tasty as the candy shop or the train, but it had a unique flavor she enjoyed. And it was more filling than she expected! If she could have a city for every snack, she would happily gobble them all down.

The military kept trying to stop her, and even unleashed their most powerful weapon after she obliterated yet another city with a kiss. The nuclear bombs were bright, shiny, and epically destructive, but they barely even left a mark on Ballonpon's perfectly pink skin. She dusted off the soot and continued playing without a thought.

There were legendary Pokemon too, but they were too small to notice. Every now and then, she'd see a flash of light from below her foot. A bolt of Thunder, a Flamethrower, a Hyperbeam, but they were snuffed out without a thought. A single footfall, usually unintentional, was enough to win the battle.

Ballonpon was starting to think that there wasn't a single Pokemon left that was large enough to see, but then the clouds condensed. She recognized their swirling pattern and the purple pink aura that followed each bolt of lightning. Something was about to dynamax, and it was a lot bigger than any other!

It still wasn't too impressive. The clouds barely reached Ballonpon's belly, and the entire weather system was no more than a ripple moving over a pond to her. Still, she was curious what this final ultimate weapon of humanity could be, so she stood back and let it form.

With a roar, it appeared from the black clouds and purple lightning. It was a massive form of twisting coils, sharp black shapes, and raw Dynamax power. Five heads emerged from its body as it roared a mighty scream to the sky. This was no ordinary Pokemon, it was the Eternamaxed Eternatus!

Ballonpon might have been impressed if it were bigger than her palm.

Eternatus didn't hesitate. It gathered every ounce of its power and let it erupt in a blast that rivaled any other move in existence. The Eternabeam cut across the landscape, ripped fields apart, boiled rivers, and left the entire countryside in devastation before cutting across Ballonpon's chest and belly.

Though it left the landscape in ruins, though it was the most powerful move ever unleashed on the world, it didn't do much. She felt a slight singe where the beam struck her, but nothing more extreme than a cinder from a dying fire.

Ballonpon sighed. She hoped that the most powerful Pokemon in existence would do something more impressive. It wouldn't have even won a Pokemon contest with a move like that!

But she could show him how it was done. With a smirk, Ballonpon lifted her finger and concentrated all the energy in her form. It condensed into a purple, red, and black ball of pure might and power, one which rivaled the sun itself in raw energy. Then she pointed at the ground and unleashed the attack.

Copycat is such a fun move. It can copy anything, even something as unique as an Eternabeam.

Her version of the move didn't destroy landscapes, it wiped them from existence. The beam ripped through the ground, then the magma under it, the continental crust, the layers of the planet beyond, then even the core of the planet itself. As she cut the beam across the world, nothing short of absolute destruction followed.

Eternatus was obliterated without a thought. Cities caught in the blast were reduced to atoms. By the time the devastation was complete, Ballonpon looked down to realize that the attack had cut the globe in two. Both halves floated in the void, slowly spinning as the Earth's contents spilled into space.

She laughed as she watched the unthinkable sight. Soon she'd be large enough to jump into space, and she could smoosh the rest of the planet on her belly. Then all the people and Pokemon could live on her for the rest of time.

It sounded fun, but she'd have to play a bit more before she became that big. With a giggle and a twirl, she continued skipping across the world. Her fun wasn't finished yet!
