a little scene from an infection au ive been talking over with my partner, featuring our ocs. Elytra (alias Lavender Veil) is a lone nomad changeling feeding off the love of the various partners he has over time. The latest partner, Dusty Quill, has become something of a special case. He's pretty socially naive, and unlike other past partners, he doesn't see that he's being played by Lavender for attention. He ends up actually falling in love with Lavender, and the secret changeling isn't quite sure how to take it, but he sticks around for the steady supply of love regardless. This, of course, leads to him getting to know someone on a more genuine level, and despite his denial of it, he comes around to loving Quill, too. He could never tell Quill about his true identity, convinced Quill wouldn't love him if he knew Lavender was a changeling.
For the infection au, the pair are forced out of Canterlot by the sudden onslaught of seemingly cannibal ponies, and Lavender is forced to use his changeling magic to take the form of a dragon in order to escape with Quill. He takes him deep into the Everfree forest, where he then takes the form of a maulwurf to dig them a temporary cave shelter. Once safely inside and taking up post at the entrance as a dragon again, Lavender still hasn't shown Quill his true form, but he surmises that Quill already knows what he is. Quill cautiously looks at him from a few steps away, asking Lavender what was going on with him- how had he done all of this? Lavender scoffs at him and rolls his eyes, telling the pegasus he can't POSSIBLY be that stupid, and to stop joking. Quill swallows a nervous lump in his throat, the question still on his facial features as he looks at the dragon. He guesses again, perhaps Lavender used some sort of spell..?
Despite his words, it's clear Quill is slowly coming to realize what Lavender is. Before he can say anything more, Lavender suddenly shifts to his true form, Elytra, purposely startling Quill as he begins to mock him for his hesitance to utter the truth.
