The cave was different from the others. They all felt it the moment they stopped in front of it, even if none of them said it out loud right away.
Jöstr was the first one to react. He let out a short laugh that echoed off the stone walls, somewhere between disbelief and pure satisfaction.
"This is it," he said. "This is the one."
Zander stood next to him, arms crossed, looking at the entrance with that flat expression of his. The inside was dark, with old wooden beams leaning against the walls and what looked like the remains of something on the ground that had been there for a very long time.
"Alright," he said. "It's a cave. What exactly makes this one special?"
Jöstr opened his mouth to answer but Tösk wasn't listening anymore. He had both hands pressed against his ears, scratching at them like something had gotten under the fur. It had come out of nowhere — that sudden, persistent itch that wouldn't quit no matter how hard he rubbed.
"You okay?" Zander asked, glancing down at him.
"Yeah, fine," Tösk said, still scratching. "My ears just started itching like crazy all of a sudden."
Zander looked at him for a second, then back at the cave.
"Great," he muttered. "The rabbit thinks we found something legendary and the squirrel has an allergic reaction."
Jöstr ignored him completely. He was still staring into the dark, that smile still on his face.
