Owen wasn’t just playing tennis tonight he was performing, and every heartbeat felt like it echoed off the stadium walls.
The crowd was a living creature around him, roaring, stomping, chanting his name. But none of that was why his paws trembled on the grip of his racket. None of that was why his chest felt tight, why his tail wouldn’t stop flicking, why his ears kept twitching toward the VIP section.
Because he was there.
Levi.
The beige‑white husky with the glacier‑blue eyes, the easy smile, the kind of presence that made Owen’s stomach flip like a loose tennis ball in a dryer. Levi sat in the front row, elbows on his knees, watching Owen with a focus that could melt steel.
And Owen wanted no, needed to impress him.
The ball launched from the server on the opposite side, spinning like a comet. Owen’s paws hit the court in a blur with Aussie Shepherd speed, sharp and explosive. His tri‑color fur flashed under the stadium lights as he lunged forward.
CRACK!!!
The return shot was perfect. The crowd erupted.
But Owen didn’t look at them. He looked at Levi.
The husky’s ears perked. His tail wagged once. Just once. But Owen felt it like a jolt straight through his chest.
The next rally was brutal fast, relentless, the kind that tested every muscle he had. Owen slid, pivoted, sprinted, his hoodie whipping behind him like a cape. Sweat dampened the fur at his temples. His lungs burned.
But every time he felt himself falter, he heard Levi’s voice in his head that soft, teasing tone:
“Show me what you’ve got, shepherd.”
And Owen pushed harder.
Match point.
The stadium fell into a hush so deep it felt like the world was holding its breath.
The ball soared toward him high, slow, perfect for a dramatic finish. Owen stepped back, muscles coiling, tail lifting for balance. His eyes locked on the ball… then flicked to Levi.
The husky was leaning forward, paws clasped, eyes wide.
Owen swung.
Time slowed.
The racket connected with a thunderous WHIP, sending the ball screaming across the net, clipping the far corner with surgical precision.
Silence. Then the stadium exploded.
Owen dropped to one knee, panting, overwhelmed not by the win, but by the sight of Levi standing, cheering, tail wagging like he couldn’t hold it back.
Owen’s ears burned. His heart hammered. He stood, breathless, and Levi mouthed:
“That was for me, wasn’t it?”
Owen’s grin was crooked, shy, and absolutely glowing.
“Yeah,” he whispered to himself. “It always is.”
