Chapter 1: “Where It All Began”
Our story begins at the home of one half of the famous Prower family. The family consists of Merlin, the uncle of Miles “Tails” Prower, his wife Amelia, and their children, Jarrod, James, and Jaden Prower. Jarrod was the oldest at age 12, James was the middle child at age 10, and Jaden was the youngest at age 4. However, as you may have guessed by the title, this story centers on Jaden himself.
One day, a 4-year-old Jaden, wearing denim overalls and a white shirt with red sneakers, was being taken to his doctor for a checkup. Jaden had many problems with making it to the potty on time, so his family decided to take him to the doctor to find out what was wrong with him. On the way there, Jaden let out a slight toot.
“Jaden?” Amelia asked. “You okay?”
“I tooted, mommy.” Jaden said.
“It’s okay, sweetie.” Amelia said. “At least you didn’t hold it in.”
A few moments later, Jaden and his mother arrived at the doctor’s office and took their seats in the waiting room.
As they waited, Amelia said, “Jaden? Why don’t you play with the toys in here?”
“Okay, Mommy.” Jaden said, and that’s what he did.
When the nurse came in a little while later, she said, “Mrs. Prower? Jaden? The doctor will see you now.”
“Coming!” Amelia said, taking her son by the hand.
Jaden and his mother took their seats inside the examination room and waited for the doctor to arrive. As they waited, a familiar hiss came from Jaden’s diaper, making the little guy teary-eyed as he looked at his mother.
“Something wrong, sweetie?” Amelia asked.
“I’m wet, Mommy…” Jaden said.
Amelia then pulled down Jaden’s denim overalls and noticed a hint of yellow on the front of his diaper and said to him, “I’ll change you as soon as we finish up here, okay Jaden?” Jaden nodded silently.
“Good boy.” Amelia said, ruffling his headfur.
A few moments later, Jaden’s doctor came in. “Well, Mrs. Prower, is your son ready for his check-up?”
“Yes, he is.” Amelia said. “Aren’t you, Jaden?” Jaden only nodded and waved silently.
“Ah, I see he’s a shy little fella, isn’t he?” the doctor said, motioning toward Jaden. “Well, don’t you worry little guy. You’ll be out of here in no time.” He then ruffled Jaden’s headfur, making him feel a little better. The doctor then noticed Jaden’s wet diaper and said, “But before we begin, I think someone needs his diaper changed.”
“Like, right now?” Amelia asked.
“If it isn’t too much trouble for you at all, Mrs. Prower,” the doctor answered.
“If you say so, doctor.” Amelia said. “Come along Jaden.”
“Okay, Mommy.” Jaden said as his mother picked him up and took him to the restroom.
When they got inside the restroom, Amelia laid Jaden down on the changing table. After removing his shoes and overalls, she began changing Jaden’s diaper.
As she was doing so, Jaden said, “Mommy?”
“Yes, Jaden?” Amelia said.
“Why do I need to see a doctor?” Jaden asked.
“To find out what’s wrong with you, sweetie.” Amelia said. “You’ve been having many problems making it to the potty on time and we’re gonna find out why.”
“Okay, mommy…” Jaden said. After Jaden’s diaper was changed, they returned to the examination room where the doctor was waiting.
Over the next 15 minutes, Jaden’s doctor went through the routine tests with Jaden. He even went through the IQ tests with him. When the doctor was finished with Jaden, he said to the kid, “Now just wait here while I have a little chat with your mommy.”
“Okay…” Jaden said.
Amelia and the doctor then left the room and shut the door while they had a chat outside.
“Amelia?” the doctor said.
“Yes, doctor?” Amelia said.
“There’s something you need to know about your son…” the doctor said.
“What is it?” Amelia asked, concern on her face.
“It’s nothing life-threatening.” the doctor said. “But while we’ve found that Jaden has a genius IQ, he also has a birth defect that affects his bladder, so he’ll have to wear diapers for the rest of his life.”
Amelia was shocked to hear this. “My son will have to wear diapers for the rest of his life?”
“That’s correct.” the doctor said. “But there’s something else we’ve found about him: he suffers from a rare condition that makes him pass gas a lot.”
“That’s not really a surprise to me.” Amelia said. “It runs in my half of the family.”
“I see.” the doctor said, and after a few more words, Amelia returned to Jaden and took him home.
Upon returning home, Jaden’s brothers, 12-year-old Jarrod and 10-year-old James, were waiting for them, along with Jaden’s father, Merlin Prower.
“What did the doctor say, honey?” Merlin asked.
“The doctor said that Jaden was born with a defect that affects his bladder, so he has to wear diapers for the rest of his life.” Amelia said.
Hearing this shocked the rest of Jaden’s family. However, Jaden remained silent.
“Hey,” Jarrod said, putting his arm on his little brother’s shoulder. “Don’t be upset little bro.”
“Thank you, Jarrod…” Jaden said, sniffling.
“You’re welcome, little bro.” Jarrod said, giving him a hug.
The next day, Jaden went with his family to the park to play, and when they arrived at the playground, Jaden went off to play, but no sooner had Jaden walked onto the playground that he and his family ran into a little fox with two tails and his family. He was of course, Miles “Tails” Prower, but Jaden didn’t know this yet.
“Jaden!” Amelia said. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine, mommy.” Jaden replied.
“Who are you?” The little fox said.
“I’m Jaden.” Jaden said. “What’s your name?”
“Miles.” The little fox said. “But my friends call me Tails.”
“Why do they call you that?” Jaden asked curiously.
“Well, I was born with two tails instead of one.” Tails said.
“Miles, who’s that?” His mother asked.
“This is Jaden, Mommy.” Tails said.
Amelia approached Tails’ mother, and said, “I’m Amelia, Jaden’s mother. What’s your name?”
“I’m Rosemary.” Tails’ mother replied. “Nice to meet you.”
However, as soon as the two dads approached them, Merlin was surprised to see his brother. “Amadeus?!”
“Merlin?!” Amadeus replied. “Is that really you?!”
“Wait, your daddy is my daddy’s brother?” Jaden asked, a bit surprised.
“I was about to ask you the same thing!” Tails said.
“Well if your daddy is my daddy’s brother…” Jaden said.
“Then that means…” Tails said.
“WE’RE COUSINS!” The two boys exclaimed as they shared a hug.
After a while of hugging, Tails turned to his mother and said, “Mommy? Can I play with Jaden?”
“I don’t see why not.” Rosemary said.
“Yay!” Tails said.
At that, the two boys began playing together. First, Tails and Jaden played together in the sandbox.
While the two boys played, Tails said, “Hey Jaden! Let’s build a sandcastle!”
“Great idea, Miles!” Jaden said.
So the two boys began building a sandcastle together, but while they were doing so, Jaden suddenly flooded his diaper.
“What was that?” Tails asked. Jaden didn’t answer; he only blushed in embarrassment at what was happening.
Tails looked at Jaden, and then he said, “Jaden? Are you okay?”
When Jaden was done, he said, “Sorry, Miles…”
“Sorry for what?” Tails asked.
“I have a bladder defect…” Jaden admitted.
“Oh… that’s terrible!” Tails said.
“Yeah…” Jaden said.
His mother saw what was happening, “Is everything alright?”
“Mommy? I need a change…” Jaden said.
“Oh, well, come along Jaden.” Amelia lifted him out of the sandbox and took him to a nearby restroom where she changed his diaper. A few moments later, Jaden came back to resume playing with Tails, but while doing so, Jaden gave a loud toot.
“What’s that sound?” Tails asked.
Jaden blushed again, and he said, “I tooted, Miles.”
“Oh, that’s okay.” Tails said. “At least you didn’t hold it in.”
“Yeah…” Jaden said.
Despite these two incidents, Jaden and Tails had a happy afternoon, and soon, many more playdates between the two boys would follow, allowing their friendship to grow.
One day, when Tails came to visit Jaden, he was amazed to find his room surrounded by model trains.
“Whoa. Cuz, what’s all this?” Tails asked.
“It’s my model trains…” Jaden said.
“You own model trains?” Tails asked, surprised.
“Yes, I do.” Jaden admitted shyly.
“Cool!” Tails said. “Can we play with them?”
“Sure!” Jaden said. “That’d be great!” And the two boys spent the whole day playing with Jaden’s model trains.
