somehow won a raffle together! Since the raffle was graffiti themed, we decided to do a Jet Set Radio cosplay. I think it turned out really well, so go show the artist some love if you can!

Crazy Taxi takes top honors for me. Between the soundtrack, the gameplay, and the funny things the passengers say when they get angry, that game is still a blast to play. I also have to give props to Phantasy Star Online for doing the MMO thing before pretty much anyone else. There were some fun folks to play with on there back in the day.

I've tried so many times to get into Phantasy Star. I think it's a cool setting and was definitely ahead of the curve for MMOs, especially on consoles. I even tried just playing the original Genesis games to see if I could vibe with the story and setting, but never got that far. The fanbase and super chill and very welcoming for beginners as far as I can remember, I just can't get into it :,3

I don't blame you. PSO does not have the best gameplay. It served more as a medium for friends to hang out while doing a little adventure. The loot was not even particularly useful for the guys who had been around a long time. The drops were mostly for the benefit of the new guy. Without a crew of regulars you want to hang with, it gets pretty boring, kind of like Everquest. My love for the game is mostly for the old posse who always helped folks out, even on the awful open U.S. servers.
The Genesis Phantasy Star games were grinds. Only 4 was really good, and even that one involved a ton of grinding. The original Master System game was arguably the best game of the series when you consider when it was made and its significant hardware limitations (3D dungeons in 8-bit, wut?). Still, the story and the cool manga cut scenes in 4 were better. Pour one out for Alys Brangwin.
