"After the plains connected and cross-planetary contact was established one oddity that stood out to us was that everywhere across the world and regardless of origin, race or species, that once in a while a person would experience this dream.
It never lasted long and was always some variation of a central theme. The 'victim' would be exploring their dwelling place looking around. They would eventually find themselves standing at a gargantuan opening that was not previously there, sometimes in the basement. Striped paint, destroyed concrete and a tunnel that stretched into an infinite darkness. Whether or not they entered or approached the dream would always end before they made a decision.
A variation of this dream is sometimes seen wherein the person would be on a toy boat wehile a vicious storm rages, looking into the tunnel while waves thrash the boat.
For a long time it was thought that is happened to the natives exlusively. It wasn't until a case in Nisemboim where a Swanian-born child experienced that nightmare. It is now thought this is just something that happens to everyone that lives here, regardless of origin. Other than that linking characteristic no other link has been found. It is seemingly completely random who this dream affects."
This is actually based off a re-occuring dream I used to get where I'd be driving this boat and see a massive dark cave in front of me amongst tumultuous waves. I never found out what was in there. Haven't had the dream in awhile. In the dream I always found the cave extremely ominous. The above blurb is from an unpublished fantasy novel I wrote. Also the first public piece from my novel.
Modeled everything in here. I used a painted concrete texture from Polyhaven.
