Actually, without the reflector covering it, she's pretty safe! The dome shaped reflector 'lid' dropped fully onto the core when the screwdriver slipped. The demon core itself has quite a history! Worth a read on wikipedia!

I think the implication here is that the lid *is* fully on the core? In photos I've seen, the lid is visibly smaller than the bottom half of the containing sphere, and the core itself is pretty small. This looks right.

Well, she does not seem to react quickly. When the skrewdriver slipped, Slotin reacted within half a second to remove the upper half sphere of beryllium. That still resulted in a lethal dose of radiation and Slotin died 9 days later. I don't know how long it would take for that setup to melt down if the beryllium is kept in place, but likely less than 20 seconds. Our cute little experimental scientist definitely got a dose at least 10 times as high as Slotin. But she wouldn't die quickly.
