Mark has matured a little (at least, in that he's not still flipping out at teachers/principals, triggering security, trying to run away.) and is now a "Buddy". "Buddies" are fellow student co-habitant "minders" for either particularly troubled or endangered students. They often also help integrate new enrollees to get them used to life at the school. "Buddies" are few and far between though, because students who flunk classes, get caught fighting, or have to be sent to security get kicked out of the program, or never make it at all. The fact that Mark maintains his status is an indication that he's a far cry from the screaming indignant teenager who stole his Mom's car and tried to demolish a financial institution with it.
