It's odd that a show showing messages like "Believe in yourself" and "Be comfortable with who you are" would CHANGE something about one of their characters just because people didn't like it. Isn't that like... totally ironic of the point you're trying so hard to make? o.o

For the most part, fans loved Derpy and supported and loved her the way she was. Even people that had mental disabilities loved Derpy and wanted her the way she was. What hurt was when the soccer moms started complaining about Derpy being offensive. To me, any soccer mom that can't stand for Derpy to be simply be as she is and who she is must be ashamed of her own child.
And as far as the backlash goes, I don't recall any bronies or pegasisters being offended by her. It was all the soccer moms doing.

I've long suspected that was the case, thanks for confirming it. I really do have eyes that go in two different directions IRL, and I'm very fond of Derpy, because she kinda raised awareness that we're people, too. *Shakes his head* I find it morbidly funny that the soccer moms claimed to be acting in the name of protecting people with disabilities, yet couldn't be bothered, to...oh, I don't know actually ask us if we thought it was offensive, first. Honestly, it's because of this exact kind of preemptive, high-handed noblesee oblige, that kids can barely be kids, anymore, and lawyers are completely out of control.

The "soccer moms" are a myth, it was trolls masquerading as "concerned parents" complaining to Hasbro, the real reason they campaigned to have the show changed was just to piss off fans. There is not one single person who has been legitimately offended by Derpy's portrayal in the show, ever.

"Whether his heart or his shoes, he stood there on Mt. Crumpet, hating the Whoes."
In the end, it doesn't really matter who made Hasbro drop Derpy. It simply annoys me to no end that everyone's gotten so obsessed with being politically correct, that a group of complete trolls can say jump, and companies like Hasbro say "How high?" without even stopping to check the source, first.
