- Background Creation Data "Bad persons are not born. Bad "Things" are created..." Im being honest here with you guys. I tried to pull back James here as long as i could with his profile. Not because i dislike James and what he is and all that, no. Fact is, James as character is complex and i think he would be the one with the biggest profile and background story i created so far - Next to maybe W.A.s whole story.
James was created at times i was really feeling down and, well, "edgy" so to say. It was not a good time and James got created also wile i was a huge fan from "Jon Lupus" artwork which let people THINK that james was a copy from Jons actual character back in the day - a reason i had to change James in the comming month a bit more but no - fact is James original design leans on characters like Sephiroth and other Anti-Hero types.
Also as reminder, i also went for a full gothica look back in the day so it was pretty easy for me how James would look. Blue as for the color was a no brainer since his background story was complex already back than - infact his story never really changed but evolved with his changes overall.
With that all in mind, for a short time i would have called James my personal "Negative Sona" since i had really strong emotions and "this time" and feelings which let me create james in the first place and his whole story told me that im more of an person which likes to see "reasons" with bad guys and like...
- Story Data James was born as child in the waterfox tribe. Sadly, he cant remember all that because he was still a baby and not even a year old as the firetribe attacked and nearly erased his home place. James was basically taken from his place as baby as part of an experiment. A..."guinea pig" if you wanna say it so:
A waterfox from the water tribe would grow together in the surroundings and "home" of the firefox tribe, learning the ways of the fire insteed of the water-ry knowledge. Combining the power of the firetribe within the body of a watertribe person.
A dream for the Firefox tribe, creating basically the ultimative "weapon" to rule over other tribes and maybe getting finally rid of others at all.
This was of course nothing of James knowledge (at least till later) so he grew up with the mindset of having a strong family with his "Father and Mother" and his Sister, Sonja. Nothing unusual so far, only that James, well, never was able to learn or cast firemagic.
This was of course "odd" for James since all James learned and "Believed" in was, of course, the way of his tribe. It was also "odd" for his tribe that james was not able to learn or use firemagic at all even if he grew up in the firetribe as member, basically.
This was already a "warning" for the big-heads in the tribe but they shrug it off. Infact they were actually very happy to see that James learned himself how to control not just water but ice, which said big-heads saw as a great counter for the normal, typical water mages they have to fight in the other watertribes.
In other words, James abilities were welcome to see if even "different" from what was seen or teached in schools of the tribe - Never the less, as long as hes doing good in class and can do what a firemage could do, all is "ok".
James never understood that but he saw it as "special" ability. For his people, for his pride.
The day came though and his school had a final "exam", which was a test of survival in the desert. This test was created so that only the strongest ones would survive and basically to "thining the horde" - basically, they knew not everyone would return.
James and a good friend of his went for this test. Again, for James who can control water, it would sure be easy. But it was not...
Just some days in, the desert was very rough and nature was always a bitch. James was able to keep alive but just some days later, his friend died because he couldnt stand the presure.
Even James was basically on his vains and near end as he did something even he knew goes to far... but if youre on your own and have to survive, noone will judge you...right?
So he did the only thing: He began to eat his dead friend. He needed food, he needed something to drink. Blood isnt the best but it is something and James did cannibalism for his own survival.
What James and sure the other people didnt know which did said test and exam, they were spied on by their own teachers. They always tried to stay close to their "students" so they knew which would return and which doesnt.
So it sure was seen what James did with his friend which was seen as a Danger and seen as "Failed guinea pig." James could fail the tribe and would go against their people if James would find the flesh of the tribe "that good" - So the big heads of the tribe thought and did the only thing they had to do, "for the best of their people"...
James survived the desert and it was said he passed the test and is, "Basically", now a full respected mage.
Though, the same moment he got his title, his "dad" stepped up and brought the message to the people and the tribe, what James did, what James were. The Big Heads and Chiefs of the tribe were also there as the words were said: James will be exiled for life. No return at all.
This was a shock for James because he just got titled as Mage but the same moment, His own "Father" began an attack which James barely dodged. This attack though left his mark on James right ear which has now a deep cut in.
With this mark and reaction. James got forced out to leave the tribe. He took the next ship to an island unknown for him and ended up on Antiola Island.
James was still confused and looked for answers for what happend but his feelings went from confused to deep anger to revenge. A roller coaster but he knew already, he cant just live a normal life anymore, even in this new place he had to duck and cover.
So he began as bounty hunter in the "darker" areas of the main city and his home place was first an old empty warehouse. Though, since James was a very skilled mage in what he learned and his doings, he quickly made a name for himself and got nicknamed "Icehand" in the bounty scene. SO known infact that not just the police was after him.
Months past and James noticed that he got followed by another assassin. He was able to counter the assassins attacks and found out it was his Sister, Sonja River which got a job from the tribe to "finally kill James".
She was for a long long time on the hunt for James but even as she was finally able to battle him, finally able to maybe kill her own brother, she couldnt do it.
Both grew up together back in their childhood and she always respected him, she just couldnt and told james for forgive her.
James saw that Sonja sure was honest and Sonja did show James the letters she got from the tribe. This meeting and this letters were enough to tell James, he would never been left alone from his past, from the tribe which would sure hunt not just him now but Sonja if they knew she wasnt able to kill him.
James did the only best thing he could think off and made the journey back to the place where all began, the firetribe.
There the fight was on and he stood up against the tribe, its big heads and chiefs and even his own "father" which told him the full story and truth. James couldnt believe it but his mother (which he actually let live), the person which always cared about Sonja and James, told him the sad truth as it really is. Which also means: James is not Sonjas brother.
Knowing the whole story let James only burst. Up to this day, it was said that an iceberg droped out of nowhere near the place the tribe was, noone really know what happend but its true that the whole firetribe nearly vanished on this day...
James, marked from his fight, returned to Antiol Island to Sonja. He told her to not live in fear anymore and they both work ever since together as Headhunter pair.
Which this could be an perfect ending, James had also other "meetings" with people like as how he found this Bat girl Somber which now is his right hand or how a job ended with a small blue vixen in his arms but that would be something you might should ask me insteed because the bat girl Somber is a creation from a good friend of mine BUT canon to James story~
- After thoughts Data As i said, James whole story tells how someone was abuised and ended up taking revenge. His whole "live" was a lie and for that, hes now on his own and his own only. His character is somewhat understandable for someone who had to live in exile and only in the darker sides of the city because of how he learned to survive.
Yes, it sounds edgy and yes, maybe a bit emo but to be fair, I tried to give james a story which is somewhat understandable and not just "he da bad guy, done". I love how he srsly turned out and shows my "brighter" characters with a more darker side like James and Sonja very well. Not everything is sunshine n clouds. Sometimes, it can be also rainy and smokey...
The clothes would be a design i have to work on but in general, yes, his story IS very long and big. I just shortend it basically here to fit within the limit but i had to get the big points out like the fight between the fire and water tribe, James basically as guinea pig, etc.
Yes, im sure his whole story alone would be even fitting as its own game alone. Facto, i had even a "GTA" styled game with him in mind ones just from the SIDE view (not top-down) and not with Stealing cars but more with exploring the "underworld" of Antiola Cities and do head hunter jobs and like.
Sadly, this project is WAY over my head and abilities ^^;;;
