no social media, no internet, no nothing
It's 1999. You haven't even started school yet and you're living in some random tropical island somewhere in Asia. You're not really aware of that all you know is that you're not American but Americas this weird distant place somewhere where all the movies and cartoons are set in. The only other seemingly interesting country is Japan which is where all those more fun cartoons come from that you watch on local television dubbed in your own native tongue.
You get to play all day under grandma and grandpas watchful eye while your parents aren't home. When your older cousins come home from the mythical place called school they can play with you and maybe even let you try some of their toys, like model kits and 4wds but you gotta be careful not to break them. You sit in awe looking at them build stuff like they were building robots or something and you go off and play with legos to try to do your best to build stuff too. Maybe sometimes they let you play on their super cool "Playstation" while guiding you and telling you what some of the words on the screen mean that you can't read yet. Choosing from a huge library of CDs that you didn't know at the time were all pirated.
When you're tired you go to Grandma and Grandpas room as you sleep in their bed while grandma watches WWF.
When you wake up, Mom and Dad are home. You do a couple of rounds of flash cards with mom and play around with dad. When you're tired you go watch something nice and family friendly like a disney movie or a Don bluth movie that to both you and your parents look about the same. You watch it on their brand new thing to replace their bulky VHS player with huge bricks that are fun to fiddle with with this brand new never before seen optical disk technology called... VCD (Yeah Americans won't know what that is). Watching movies that were of course also pirated.
