Finally. The sketch was like three years old, and it's been lying in my "almost colored" folder for months, feels like. And it's been years since I posted any art of them last.

Trouble when you wait this long to finish something is, you start noticing your own fumbles on the sketch level, and you can't fix all of it. blah blah I'm happy I finished it and it actually looks better to me now than it did yesterday. XD
Another 20+ hours. I have GOT to make some quicker drawings.

Whooooa~
Can I just say? Compositionally, this is really great. The red of the characters contrasts so sharply (without even any extreme shades) on the brown-green mixture of the background, which looks so natural and atmospheric. In my head, as I look at this, I can so much as hear specific music due to the relaxed, natural feel. Also, that water is a great effect, very well done. =)

Wow. That music adds something for me. Now I see more. I like.

I tell you that water was a pain in the ass. XD For a while I thought I'd never make it look like water, especially getting the surface right. But I'm so happy I kept working on it, and the same thing goes for the vegetation.
I'm trying to draw things-other-than-characters a bit more. There's this threshold because I haven't drawn plants or water etc as much, so I get insecure and frustrated and my lack of patience rears its ugly face. D:
I like this method of "flat color" with markers (maybe simple shading) and then lots of layers of color-pencil shading on that. I've been using stumps a lot too, and little pieces of foam, on the shading and gradients. I also didn't use gel pen on any of the highlights, sticking to white watercolor pencil. The kind of bright reflections I went for on the Blaze/Marine pic wouldn't have worked as well with the mood I was going for here.

(there's also a lot of my favorite Inktense shade here; Bark. When you don't add water, it's a near-black brown, but the tone is actually purplish, so it makes for great shadows.)

I have to say I think all the time you spent on this was well worth it! This is some awesome colouring. I love the overall grey/brown/green tones and how Knux and Mighty stand out so well against the background. And the way you rendered the water! I think that's my favourite aspect of this; you've really pulled off the distortion of the characters' legs underwater, yet you did it really simply without going overboard on details. The characters are also drawn really well, and your linework is gorgeous as usual <3

gosh thank you. I've been so tired and stressed lately, it's hard to find the energy and focus to work on anything. It gives new energy that you took the time to say all this. <3

Aw! I'm glad. <3 I hope you can find more time and energy to spend on things you want to get done.
