I am fascinated by the water giants, who spend their whole lives at sea.
And yet something about them proves they are, in fact, related to you and me.
Yet the most breathtaking about them is that, like us land creatures, they breathe air
All evidence suggests their ancestors had four limbs and were covered in hair.
They keep themselves warm with their own body heat, and they have a four chambered heart
They are born in the way I was, and like all birds and beasts on Earth they are smart.
They cannot leave the water, lest they collapse underneath their own body's weight
It was surprising to learn they search for tiny krill, for that is what they ate
They always are at least half awake, for they can have one side of their brain sleep
My people can swim well, but these leviathans are true people of the deep
Their smaller cousins, like myself, have a diet rich in many kinds of fish
When I was a younger pup, to meet with them was something for which I would wish.
And they move through the ocean with a pair of flukes on the end of their great tails
Although I am being a silly otter, and perhaps should just call them whales.
