Mark is a cagey (kind of nasty) antisocial who doesn't often make friends/acquaintances very easily, and usually his first interactions don't go that great, if at all. It helps that Charles Bennin is a patient, observant, and empathetic man with a calm demeanor-- Mark can't really find too many reasons to panic in this situation. And after some reassurance, Mark finally gets to the point where he's ready to consider "Chip" a friend...

...maybe even one he can confide in.
