Once, Equis was one and beautiful. The First Celestarch gathered the world beneath his hand, binding the splinters of the old empires with word and sword. For eques, to create. For ki’rinaes, to build. For equi, to live. And for alacorna, to guide the course of all. Together these peoples raised the great city of Gellis, and with it a new world, upon Equis and far beyond.
Yet as the old empires passed, so did the Gellis too. The First Celestarch vanished. Gellis fell, laid waste by a great disaster. The eques, proud and vain, turned their gaze to the void across the stars and set out to vanquish it. The ki’rinaes scattered across the world, losing what they had built and forgetting what they had been. The alacorna traded their path toward dream and glory for luxury and intrigue. And only the equi remained where they had always stood.
Today, Equis stands suspended in a brittle constancy. For centuries, its society and its craft have followed the same precepts laid down by the First Celestarch. Civilization barely advances, and only a rare handful of the truly great can keep it from collapsing entirely. And yet, a fall is sometimes only the first step of ascent. Centuries pass. Eras turn. Disasters yields to hope, and hope hardens once more into trial. But the world newer gets old.
