for being such amazing friends since the very end of last year, starting the new year with you both has been an absolute blast. I hope that you enjoy this picture as much as I did making it.
The academy halls were quiet at this hour, that soft, golden quiet that only existed before the sun fully woke. Light filtered down through the skylight, warm and hazy, catching dust motes that drifted like tiny stars.
Thomas was the first to appear, padding down the hallway in his red‑and‑black fox onesie, hood ears bouncing with each step. His green eyes were bright despite the early hour; Thomas was always bright, like someone who carried his own sunrise.
Behind him came Tuxley, the wolf with teal hair that never quite behaved. He wore his favorite star‑patterned pajamas, sleeves too long, expression still half-asleep. Tuxley had the calmest presence of the three, the kind of calm that made even a cold hallway feel like a blanket.
And then there was Kenji, the husky‑Pomeranian mix, dressed in his rugged training gear even though it was barely morning. Harness buckled, gloves on, knee guards strapped tight. He looked ready for an adventure… or maybe he just didn’t know how to relax like the other two.
Thomas spun around and grinned at them both.
“You two look like the beginning and end of a sleep schedule.”
Tuxley yawned. “I was asleep. Someone,” he said, giving Thomas a pointed look, “dragged me out of bed because he ‘felt a vibe’.”
“It was a good vibe,” Thomas insisted. “The kind that says something fun is about to happen.”
Kenji crossed his arms, tail flicking once. “Fun at five in the morning?”
Thomas stepped closer, tapping Kenji’s chest plate with a paw. “You need fun the most, mister serious.”
Kenji tried to look offended, but the corner of his mouth betrayed him with a tiny smile.
Tuxley stretched, ears drooping. “So what’s the plan, Thomas? You woke us up. You lead.”
Thomas looked up at the skylight, eyes reflecting the warm glow.
“I don’t know,” he admitted softly. “I just… didn’t want to be alone this morning.”
That changed everything.
Tuxley stepped to his side without hesitation, bumping shoulders with him.
Kenji moved to the other side, placing a gloved paw gently on Thomas’s back.
“We’re here,” Kenji said, voice low but steady. “You don’t have to ask.” Thomas’s ears lifted, and he leaned into both of them, warmth blooming in his chest.
The three of them stood there for a moment, a fox wrapped in soft flannel, a sleepy wolf in starry pajamas, and a determined canine in training gear, all held together by something quiet and real.
Tuxley finally broke the silence.
“…So, breakfast?”
Thomas brightened instantly. “Yes! That’s the vibe!”
Kenji sighed, but he was smiling now. “Fine. But I’m choosing the music this time.”
And together, the three of them walked down the glowing hallway, mismatched, half-awake, but perfectly in sync, ready to start a day that already felt a little lighter simply because they were starting it together.
