Loretta awoke sometime in the middle of the night. She rubbed the sleep from her golden eyes and sat up.
The little girl was wearing a pink-and-white frilly nightgown, along with fuzzy pink slipper-socks. Her blonde hair, usually long and flowy, had been done up in a tight bun on top of her head, encased in a pink bun cover.
The first thing Loretta checked was her diaper. She reached down and felt the bottom of the thick cloth garment, which was pinned up beneath bright pink plastic pants. The girl was surprised at how completely soaked her diaper was. I didn’t think I drank that much milk before bedtime! she sleepily thought. That alone, however, wouldn’t have woken her up, sound sleeper that she was. She looked over at her Diancie companion still slumbering beside her.
Crown was sucking their thumb as they slept. Their tape-up diaper, colored pink like a dream ball, was very squishy and puffy. The shiny fairy Pokemon shifted in their sleep, but didn’t wake.
Loretta looked around her room, trying to determine the cause of her premature waking. Moonlight shone through the large window opposite her bed, illuminating the center of the room, while leaving the edges in darkness.
The girl shrugged, then flopped her head back onto her pillow. Her heart stopped as she saw a frightening figure hovering right over her.
A pale-skinned man clung to the ceiling above Loretta, seeming to somehow hang on by nothing but the tips of his fingers and curled-up toes. The intruder was dressed like a thug, wearing dark, baggy clothing; gold chains hung from his neck.
“Yo, it’s ya boy, Guzma!” the man croaked out in a gravelly voice. He skittered around in a circle, his movement resembling a bug’s as he returned to his previous position above the bed. Slowly, with a series of cracks and snaps, he turned his head around 180 degrees to face the terrified girl beneath him.
“Yo, it’s ya boy, Guzma!” the thing repeated with the same tone and inflection. It pulled its lips back into an overexaggerated grin, which seemed to keep getting wider and wider, impossibly so.
“Yoitsaboygughma!” The creature’s words had become unrecognizable due to the hideous skeletal grin it had contorted its face into. It laughed a shrill, maniacal laugh and let go of the ceiling.
Loretta screamed as the dark shape plunged onto her.
The young girl awoke with a start, this time for real. It was still dark outside, with moonlight spilling through the window to partially light up the room.
Loretta’s heart was pounding. She immediately looked up at the ceiling, sighing in relief at the distinct lack of any kind of monster hanging up there. She looked back down and noticed that Crown was also awake, staring out the window.
“What’s the matter?” Loretta asked, almost afraid to follow her Pokemon’s gaze. “You don’t… see somethin’ out there, do you?” Steeling herself, she decided to look; a few minutes of trying to pick out shapes in the darkness, however, thankfully yielded nothing.
Crown looked at Loretta and shrugged, before grabbing their edge of the covers and lying back down. “Dian,” they said with a yawn.
“G’night to you, too, Crownsers.” Loretta yawned back as she, too, laid back down.
