Back in November, I was feeling particularly nostalgic. I'm not exactly sure why. But it inspired me to make a small comic out of this.

This is more of a personal comic, and it's something that's very close and dear to my heart <3

At my store I offer to get blurays and have a manga section. I won't let physical media go away if I can help it.

I have a retrofuture setting where physical media came back after a massive collapse of the internet called "The Blackout." Everything comes on cartridges about the size of old tape cassettes since miniaturization still is a thing. Movies on home video are like DVDs with all sorts of special features. Music comes with the video, the making of the video, etc.

While there's so many benefits to the internet, the return of physical media sounds so nice...

feel that too. i live in the boonies of sorts, so going to a mall isn't a casual thing but the idea most if not all my games are digital does kinda sting. convenient sure but i like having them available. heck i still have the file for Mario 35 when THAT was a thing. it doesn't do anything, but i got it still

Get that feeling every time I go by the old storefronts. Used be plenty of video rental stores around where I grew up. From big chains like Blockbuster, Hollywood Video, Family Video, to the smaller mom-and-pop stores. Similar for game stores, the old days of local game stores, Funcoland, and early Gamestop. Used to be an event to go to the shops, peruse the shelves and see what was new, chat with other customers about a particular film or game. Now they've all pretty much gone away in the flood of digital media.

Yes.

Oh wow, this really hits home hard.

My NES cartridges are all still in good working order and so are my DVDs. I cannot see myself in a world where everything is downloaded and there's no more popping discs or plastic casings into drives.

Consider seeing if you can get your strips published as physical media.

Electronic-only is easy, but paper lasts, and supports stores.

A few weeks ago, my friend and I ate lunch at a local mall and afterwards I decided to check out the old toy and game stores I used to visit when I was a kid. It really hits you in the gut seeing a place you've been to countless times as a kid shut down, or turned into a different franchise. Nostalgic and bittersweet in one

This is why I'm going back to the pre-hard drive days of gaming. I don't need new games, I need games. And I don't mind wesring an eyepatch and pegleg to get them.
