isn't she always a wolf?

or is she a kemonomimi?

i haven't seen spice and wolf but everything i've seen, and read, says she's a wolf

Holo, (Horo in Japanese), is an anthro wolf who looks like a human with wolf ears and tail throughout most of the series  She changes into an extremely large wolf whenever she believes it's necessary to correct a wrong of some kind.

It was a pretty good anime series but, to some, it was boring because it taught about economics and there were several episodes where they spent 10+ minutes explaining economics.  That may be why the series ended without a proper tying up loose ends.

is that why there's only 1 season and it's 12 episodes only?

That would be a good guess.  Oh!  In my original reply, I forgot to mention that Holo is the "Wolf Goddess of the Harvest".

the fuck does harvest and economics have to do with each other?

More than you might imagine, especially in farming communities.  A bad harvest can mean a bad economic forecast for a region and, conversely, a good, even great, harvest can lift the economy of the region.

well that is unfortunate

True, but that's how economics work.  A good economy helps everyone and a bad economy helps no one.
