Of course we can't talk about Animal Buddies without mentioning the second most prolific member of the group, Enguarde! Thankfully for me, Enguarde proved to be a far easier experience for me than Rambi, as his overall concept lends itself to being more of a character. A literal 'sword' fish looking like a foppish fencer? How could I not! Is it low hanging fruit? Maybe, but it's a tasty low hanging fruit! I'm not reworking Shakespeare here, I'm reworking Donkey Kong Country! I want something fun and flamboyant that says immediately "that's a character" as soon as you see it which unfortunately like Rambi, Enguarde falls prey to just looking like a basic cartoon fish in canon.

As always though, I never want to detract or disrespect the originals whenever I do Donkey Kong Country or other 'my way' styled projects. My comments on them are mere critiques or nitpicks. Spoken in hyperbole often, sure, but my goal is never to say the original is bad, but instead to honor them by adding upon their framework which I hope comes off...and if not well I'm happy with this in the end and I hope someone else is too.
