The first thing anyone in that tavern heard was the clicking of those stiletto heels, like a clock counting down to your last moments. Her skin was a pale black like the night itself grew legs. Red hair billowing behind her in a mist like sprayed blood from a shot to the head.
She wore the darkness like it was just another shade of lipstick, and we all knew in a few moments it'd stick to us like a shadow, never to come off no matter how hard we scrubbed.
We all knew what she was. The word hung on the air like second-hand smoke and we were all breathin' it without sayin' it out loud. 'Succubus.'
She was like a film playin' in reverse, we all knew how it was gonna end the moment it started. She wanted the essence of ya. The stuff what makes you 'you'. Not for gain, just for the thrill of taking. She'd take every last drop of your soul and put it in the back of the pantry to gather dust while she dines on a queen's feast, never even givin' you the satisfaction of feelin' useful.
And all it was gonna take was one smack of those lips, painted like the void starin' back. A kiss on the air and we were all done for.
