My second time practicing on reference.
The scene idea was to have a Samurai-Loup Katana-slicing the clothes off the Grunt brothers who are chasing him down a path, set in the style of that black and white 50s movie, "7 Samurai". As you can see, I still have a long way to go. This will likely go into scraps for archiving after a month or so.
The good:
- I'm finding it easier than before being able to draw faces now, and I'd love to get to a point where I can draw them much more fluidly.
- The katana was tricky, but fun to work with, especially in the detailing, and I think for referencing, I did alright for my level.
The bad:
- I'm still having a lot of trouble (mental block) drawing or envisioning how the body should look. I can envision the body stance in my head, but it comes out a mess trying to blueprint it. ;-;
- My brush still has the aesthetic of a few notches above MS Paint. I've tried a lot of brushes, but I'm still unsure on what kind of brush will make my lines look better, smoother, etc.
Focuses: (I'm always open to tips on how to do things better. Actually, I'll take as much constructive criticism as I can right now)
- Refining the things I can draw well
- Overcoming the things I can't draw well until I *can* draw them well.
- Finding a better method for smooth lines
- Learning how to modify brushes (and more importantly brush strokes)
My current drawing level (personal take): Just barely above amateur
