Mark
Hey everyone and welcome to the 9th episode of the Idol Room Podcast.
I'm your host as always, Mark Tuan, and I'm joined here as always by my three amazing co-hosts.
Yugyeom
Hey everyone.
Mark
Conan.
Conan
Hi everyone.
Mark
And Troye.
Troye
Hey, how are you all doing?
Mark
Now todays episode is interesting because we're not going to be talking about a specific movie franchise or studio like we usually do on the podcast, but 'instead' we're going to be talking specifically about the actors themselves that star in these movie.
And to introduce our topic we have two special guests on the show today that are going to be talking with us about Hollywood culture and... actor immunity?
Is that how you would put it?
Chris
Pretty much, yeah.
Mark
Alright then.
Everyone? Please welcome Chris Bang and Lee Know from Stray Kids onto the show today.
-Group applauds and cheers-
Yugyeom
Woo. Yeah.
Lee Know
It's a pleasure.
Chris
Thanks for inviting us.
Mark
Oh, it's our pleasure.
Originally as you may know this was meant to be a 15 episode podcast, but.. due to the unfortunate low ratings of the first episode we all decided it would be best to condense the show down to 10 episodes instead of 15 and change the order around.
So, I apologise to you both because you were originally supposed to each have your own separate episodes.
I think you, Lee were supposed to originally be on for episode 12 and Chris, you were supposed to be on for the 6th episode, but...
Due to time conflicts and budgeting, we have to change things around and condense you both into one episode.
I really hope you both don't mind.
Chris
Ah it's fine.
Lee Know
Yeah don't worry about it.
Yugyeom
Yeah, sorry man.
Mark
Alright, cool.
So... how are you both settling in here in New Eden so far anyway?
I know it's probably tough, living in South Korea and then all of a sudden, you're just here, living a totally different life.
It's kinda a head trip, right?
Chris
Yeah, it kinda was at first.
Lee Know
It took a lot of getting used to, that's for sure.
Conan
Ugh, Tell me about it.
Mark
How are you both settling in so far?
Chris
Uhh, kinda well actually.
It was really strange at first.
One minute you're with JYP, living life as an Idol. Then all of a sudden you now belong to TG Industries, you're brought here with no say whatsoever and now all of a sudden you're an idol working for a government regime.
It takes some getting used to.
But honestly, once you're settled in and you're used to how things go down here... It's kinda nice actually.
I don't hate it.
Mark
Yeah I know exactly what you mean.
The same thing happened with us at Got 7.
One day we were idols at JYP, getting ready a new comeback tour.
Next thing you know these women in purple show up, hand you papers telling you you now belong to TG Industries.
Your bags have already been packed for you and you're being whisked away in military vans.
They bring you to TG Industries and strip you down and the next thing you know, you're waking up naked on some operating table and they're telling you you're going to be living here from now on, dude. It's crazy.
Yugyeom
Fucking crazy, man...
Chris
Same. Yeah...
Lee Know
It's funny because everyone always told us you guys left Got 7 willingly. Like you all just didn't renew your contracts and disbanded.
It wasn't until years later when we got bought out and was all brought here that we realised. Oh, here's where all the other idols were.
It's crazy, man.
Mark
Yeah, no. Apparently TG Industries had always owned Got 7, only we didn't know about it until our contract's 7 years were up.
Like, apparently that's how they do it.
They secretly buy out the idol groups during their contracts. Like, idols they see potential in.
And they keep you with your companies until the contract with them expires, and once the contract with your company ends, they just show up in a black van and take you away, right there and then.
They've done it with tons of Idol groups.
Blackpink... Twice...
Yugyeom
Enhypen.
Mark
Yeah, Enhypen... AB Six... so many groups.
Lee Know
So is that what happened with BTS as well?
Why they disbanded?
Mark
Uhhh... from what I know Jin from BTS has always been a part of TG Industries... but for the other members, I think so, yeah...
Yugyeom
TG Industries owned certain Idol groups from the get go.
Like... Taemin from Shiny [Shinee], he's always been part of TG Industries.
Uhh most of NCT too I think...
Mark
I know Do-young is.
Yugyeom
Do-Young... Mark Lee I think?
Conan
Wow.
Chris
So TG Industries practically owns everyone then.
Mark
Yeah, I think that was their plan all along to be perfectly honest.
Just get all the Idols on contracts with companies they do business with, then scoop everyone up once their contracts expire.
Lee Know
So... is Got 7 still a thing? Like, are you guys still active, or...?
Mark
Yes... and no.
Basically we're technically owned by TG Industries now. And from what I've been told, always had been, behind the scenes.
But... the reasons they wanted us were both for religious 'and' political reasons, more less so than for our music.
Chris
Religious "and" political?
Mark
Yeah, it's this whole complicated thing.
They basically wanted Yu-gyeom to become the Anti-Christ so they could open up a portal and make this thing called a K-Yum.
It's like this replica of Birmingham in England that they're building, and they wanted to turn us into the seven deadly sins or whatever to power it.
Chris
Whaaaaat?
Mark
*sighs*
Yeaaaahhhhh... it was just this... whole fucking thing man, it was crazy.
Yugyeom
They had us sing every day standing on alters with giant Pentagrams over our heads, it was nuts.
Troye
I'm sorry, can we just re-wind a second when you said... "Make Yu-gyeom the Anti Christ". Like... what the fuck?
What do you mean by that?
Mark
Exactly like I said man. TG Industries is crazy. They don't mess around.
Conan
So Jin's a part of that this entire time?
Mark
He's not just a part of it. He's leading it.
He's the one making most of these decisions down here.
Troye
Whaaaaaat?
Chris
I met him once. He's the crazy guy from BTS, right? The one who constantly makes all those rude jokes?
Conan
Oh yeah.
Troye
You don't know the half of it. Trust me!
-Yugyeom laughs-
Mark
Yeah... It's... sigh
A whole fucking thing, man...
I mean, Jin's a good guy.
He actually helped me and my entire family get settled here.
He helped my brother, sister and my Dad set up their own businesses and even gave them retail outlets at his mall in Nephopolis.
He helped me launch my own clothing brand, 13 clothing.
He helped Yu-gyeom get settled down here as well.
He even built luxury apartments for all of us to help us get settled in.
Apparently he and his team single handed built all of New Eden so I can't fault him too hard.
Yugyeom
Yeah, there's many sides to Jin actually. He's pretty crazy, but not like... psychotic crazy or anything.
Mark
No. No, no.
Yugyeom
Like there's layers to the madness, if that makes any sence.
Conan
Okay.
So it's not just, him ranting about Lana Wachowski or rambling nonsense all the time then.
Yugyeom
No, no, no. They're layers to the crazy, if that makes any sence.
Troye
Sorry, can we just re-wind. I'm still getting my head around the whole "making you the Anti-Christ" thing.
Like... is... that... not a big deal to you in anyway?
Yugyeom
No they made it Jin now instead.
Mark
Yeah Jin is now the Anti-Christ of TG Industries now.
It's official. He is the son of the Devil.
Troye
Is he really?
Conan
That explains a lot.
Troye
Dude. That explains everything.
Lee Know
Trying to wrap your head around the fact that you're now part of it, that's the real challenge.
Chris
Ahh, tell me about it.
Lee Know
Never in a million years would I see myself being an Idol for a Satanic, devil worshipping regime that deals with arms trading and runs the military.
It's crazy.
Mark
You guys live pretty close to here though, right?
The Central Cove District?
Lee Know
Some of us do. Hyunjin lives downtown now I think and Felix has a much bigger place in TG Central, which is like an hours commute away.
Mark
Wow man. What's it like, living in an entire underwater neighbourhood?
Chris
Honestly, it's pretty damn insane.
I remember when they first brought us down here, I was like... wait, are we in Sea World right now? What's going on?
Then they take us to this nice row of suburban houses and tell us this is where we're gonna be living and I was like, whaaaaaaaat??
-Yugyeom laughs-
Lee Know
I'll never forget the first time I stepped outside my front door and saw a huge whale over my head just staring back at me. I was like... if that glass breaks, we're all truly fucked man.
-Mark laughs hard-
-Conan laughs-
Troye
I can't even imagine what that's like. Living in an entire underwater city. That must be insane.
Yugyeom
Oh, trust me. I've been down there man. It's so nice.
Mark
Yeah BamBam's favourite Thai restaurant is down there so we all end up going there as a group often.
Yugyeom
Jungkook and Jimin as well.
Mark
Yeah. It's real popular amongst Idols.
Chris
That's honestly what I love about this place man. You can pretty much just go anywhere and not be hounded by fans or anything.
Like you don't need to hide your face under a mask or worry about paparazzi or need security or anything. It's such a trip just being able to leave your front door and just, I dunno, get milk or something and not be a big deal or anything.
Lee Know
Mmmm.
Mark
Yeah that's the beauty about this place actually. Like, I guess we don't have a lot of fans down here, or the population is a lot smaller?
I dunno what it is, but, yeah. It's kinda cool just being able to leave your front door, get on with your day and not having to worry about needing an escort, or security, or, like you said Chris, not needing a face mask to cover your face when you go out.
Chris
It's really something else, being able to do whatever and not be hounded all the time.
Conan
Ah that's so cool.
Yugyeom
Yeah I don't know what it is. I guess Paparazzi culture just doesn't exist here.
Like, occasionally you do still bump into fans, and it's always cool and all, but they don't like follow you or scream or stalk you or anything. They mostly just ask for an autograph, and that's it.
Lee Know
Yeah I get the same.
Yugyeom
Do you really?
Lee Know
Time to time I do.
Just the other day when I was at the station actually I bumped into a few fans.
Yugyeom
That's awesome.
Mark
Yeah, Part of the reason why that is, is because the laws here are so strict, like so tightly controlled, that...
Nobody in their right mind ever wants to be on the receiving end of them.
And... I think over time, that just conditioned everyone's behaviour in a way where it's like... I don't ever wanna break the rules, I'm just gonna be a perfect citizen, keep my head down. Look both ways before crossing the street. That sort of thing.
And...
*sigh*
I dunno. I see both sides of it to be honest.
I mean, I do get what they mean, by having a safe clean, zero tolerance on crime society.
New Eden is very safe.
I've never even seen or heard of a crime taking place here.
Yugyeom
That's true.
Mark
But it's...
It's kinda hard to wrap your head around, because you're aware that you're being watched at "all" times of the day. Y'know?
Like, the moment you set foot outside of your house, you're being watched.
There's like a million secret cameras on you.
Some government agent behind a desk is watching you take the trash out or go on your morning jog and it's like...
*heavy exhale*
Is that the price to pay for having all this freedom and no crime?
Is it?
I dunno...
Everyone here seems happy, but...
I dunno...
Troye
Yeah I get what you mean. It almost feels Twilight Zone'ish at times, right?
Like you've just walked into a clean, picturesque, perfect neighbourhood but everyone's staring at you all the time, but more in an "eerie" kinda way?
Yugyeom
The way Jungkook once described this place, "It's like North Korea if North Korea somehow controlled all the wealth, and South Korea was the poor neighbour."
-Mark giggles-
Yugyeom
"Like Imagine if North Korea somehow ruled the entire world. This is what it would look like Dude."
Conan
How is Jungkook doing these days anyway?
Yugyeom
Good man. He's kinda bummed. He misses being an idol and he hates that nobody listens to him a lot of the time when he tries to express that fact.
But, I think like all of us, it can be hard to settle in here, y'know?
Lee Know
Some more than others, it takes a while to sink in that your career as an idol is kinda out of your own hands sometimes.
Like you actually have little to no say on when your time in the spotlight is over, y'know?
Mark
Oh, next to no say whatsoever man, are you kidding me?
Trust me. None of us at got 7 wanted to quit being idols, man.
We would of done this forever if we could.
Yugyeom
Yeah we had no say in it whatsoever.
Mark
"None" whatsoever, man.
It's tragic.
Conan
That sucks.
Chris
Sorry to hear that.
You guys really got shafted hard by JYP, huh?
Mark
I'm still bitter about it to be honest.
Some of us do well here, like you said earlier, Lee.
But... yeah like you just said Yu-gyeom, about Jungkook...
Yeah man, some of us have a hard time letting go of the fact your career ends when someone else says it does.
Not you man, not you...
Yugyeom
Sorry, Mark...
Mark
Nah, don't be.
"Anyway".
We should probably move onto the topic of todays episode.
"Are certain actors immune from criticism."
Now Chris. Since this is your topic, why don't you start us off.
What do you mean exactly when you say "Certain actors being immune from Criticism."
What is that about, exactly?
Chris
Well I...
-Door creeks open-
Jay Park
...Oh Shit. Sorry guys, I didn't know you guys were in here recording. [40% volume]
Yugyeom
Jay! [70% volume]
Mark
Oh hey! [60% volume]
Jay Park
Hey. Hey Yu-gyeom.
Hey, Sorry. I'm completely lost. I'm trying to find Studio "4-D"? [30% volume]
Mark
It's just down the hall.
Two rooms that way. To the left. [60% volume]
Jay Park
Right. Thanks.
Sorry everyone. [40% volume]
Yugyeom
Bye Jay! [80% volume]
-Door slowly closes shut-
Mark
Ahh. Sorry Chris, you were saying?
Chris
Uhhhh...?
Oh, yeah.
Sorry.
Uhhhhhh... basically.
Yeah, I think it was.... Your first episode of this show. Where you guys were talking about Ezra Miller?
Conan
Oh yeah.
Yugyeom
I remember that episode.
Chris
Yeah.
I remember I was listening to that while I was at home doing stuff around the house.
I remember I had it on in the background, and I was listening to your whole spiel about How Erza Miller did all this stuff, yet somehow was still involved with Hollywood and was still getting all these roles and ahh...
It just got me thinking. How there are certain actors in Hollywood, where... the moment they get involved in any kind of controversy.
Any controversy whatsoever. Their reputation is just, completely destroyed.
Just, obliterated.
But yet...
There are other actors in Hollywood that we all cherish and love. That can do no wrong in our eyes.
And... even if they were, those actors, were to get involved in some kind of scandal of any kind. They would still have a huge following no matter what.
Yugyeom
Like Jin.
Conan
Ho-boy!
Chris
Yeah, no. Like Jin, but not just Him.
Big Hollywood actors like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jackie Chan... Jack Nicholson, Eddie Murphy, even Kanye West to some degree.
Well, maybe not now because of all that stuff about him...
But that's kinda my point as well.
There are some actors, even if they were to star in bad movies or get involved with any kind of drama behind the scenes. Fans would still love them anyway, no matter what.
But then you have other actors like James Franco, Kanye West or Rachel Zegler for example.
Yugyeom
Ugh. Rachel Zegler again...
Chris
Yeah! Exactly my point!
That right there!
You have some actors that are like Cherished Hollywood icons that can do no wrong, but then you have people like Rachel Zegler, where even just mentioning their name is enough to make peoples skin crawl, y'know?
Like, the moment they dip their toe in hot water. Their entire career as they know it is just over, y'know?
It's just totally done and dusted.
Lee Know
Yeah, and it usually always seems to involve some kind of sex scandal as well.
Chris
Exactly!
Dude. The moment any celebrity gets involved with any kind of sex scandal, their career is just over y'know? It's just done. Finished.
Yet somehow on that same spectrum, you have actors like Jackie Chan and all the crazy shit he gets away with that makes him absolutely hated in China but still seen as an icon the rest of the world over.
You have all the shit Arnold did with all of those maids, but somehow people think it's funny. Like "Oh that's just Arnold being Arnold."
Like... How does that work?
You didn't give Bill Cosby a free pass after they found out all the stuff he was doing behind the scenes, or Kanye West like I said earlier.
Lee Know
P. Diddy.
Chris
Yeah. Exactly.
Conan
I think that's kinda different though isn't it, because you're talking about actual rapists, not something like Arnold where the sex was consensual, even if it was adultery in some way.
Chris
But it's still kinda fucked up though, right?
Like, should they get a free pass just because the scandal was consensual?
Like, what determines what scandal is enough to ruin someone's career and what scandal is just, seen as a funny thing in the papers.
That's my real question.
Troye
That's actually interesting you bringing this topic to the table, because, that trend of public icons being involved in sex scandals, doesn't just pertain to Hollywood.
You hear about it constantly, dude even daily with popular YouTubers and Twitch Streamers, getting involved with some kind of drama or scandal, and people just eat it up daily.
The media just lights up like a Christmas tree and has a field day about it, it's insane.
Yugyeom
Like Keemstar Drama
Troye
Exactly, yeah.
People just love controversy man. They just cling to it.
Chris
Exactly yeah.
But what I find interesting is that it wasn't always like that.
Like, look at Michael Jackson for example.
When he was caught, all those years ago, having relations with all those kids...
People just ran with it.
Made jokes about it. Turned him into a meme of sorts.
Same with Arnold Schwarzenegger and all those maids he slept with. Or Jackie Chan. That sort of thing.
Like, what changed in society where doing this sort of thing was considered funny back then, but all of a sudden, now it's not okay, and if you even do anything your career is totally over.
Lee Know
Could it be a generational thing?
Like, life before the internet, people just reading tabloids in a gossip magazine. That sort of thing.
Chris
Most likely yeah.
But what caused that shift to where, Arnold is in the papers with his gut hanging out, getting a maid pregnant and it's okay.
Or Leonardo DiCaprio doing whatever and it's okay, to where now everybody's hyper vigilant, and if you even so much as look at somebody the wrong way, your career is done.
You can't even get a job scanning clothes at Target.
What caused that shift between this is fine, "but this isn't fine".
That sort of thing.
That's what I wanna discuss on your show, Mark.
Mark
Wow, yeah.
That's actually a really interesting topic to cover. Because you're right, actually.
Cancel culture didn't exist back in the day.
People didn't really care all that much if a celebrity got involved in any sort of major drama.
It was barely headline worthy outside of like, as you just said Lee, Gossip Magazines that you find in a women's hair salon.
Lee Know.
Mm.
Troye
Well I mean... people "did" care.
I don't think it's so much that they didn't.
I mean, like you just said, you have all those gossip magazines like my Mum used to love reading all the time.
And people eat this shit up on a daily basis. They still do, trust me.
But like, I think the big change is that, now everything is all over the internet. And... it's pretty much in your face 24 7.
Just news feed, news feed, buzz feed.
Oh Kayne West did this, oh Elon Musk said that, just, news feed news feed news feed.
And... I think after a while it just drove people crazy, to where, you have entire generations now that are raised purely by internet culture and nothing else.
Combine that with the pandemic and people locked in their homes, and... you just have a recipe for disaster.
Conan
That's right.
People were never really offended by this back in the way when you could just go out and enjoy the sunshine, ride bikes or do stuff.
Troye
Right.
I think the internet, kinda shaped this future generation in the worst way possible, to where... you're not allowed to have sence of humour about this stuff anymore.
Like if you say anything or do anything to offend anyone, ever. The keyboard warriors will rally up against you.
The mob will rise up against you.
Antifa will rise up against you.
That sort of thing, y'know.
Yugyeom
Wow.
Troye
Like, we can all joke now and then about Meghan Merkel doing something stupid or something like Will Smith slapping Chris Rock across the face at the Oscars.
-Mark laughs-
Troye
But the minute the controversy becomes sexual, people just lose their minds.
Get out the pitchforks.
That's actually a really interesting topic to bring up actually. I'm glad you mentioned it.
Chris
Thanks.
It's been in the back of my mind a while actually.
Because I think, well, you kinda put it into words better than I ever could, Troye.
Is that people these days are just sick of controversy.
The whole entire generation just has no humour around it.
Yet, back when we were all kids or hell, even before we were born. Like, nobody ever really cared. Y'know?
Like, it was a non issue for the previous generation, but the worst possible thing you could do in our generation.
That's what I wanted to bring up, really.
Mark
That's interesting...
Conan
I think now in general, I...
Oh, sorry. Go ahead.
Mark
Nah no no, go ahead go ahead.
Conan
Oh, right. Sorry.
Umm... Yeah I think now in general, women are just sick to death of dealing with harassment and being objectified all the time, so they just turn to social media to complain about it.
Like... I mean, like you said before, about how Women would read Gossip Magazines and didn't really have a voice back then because the Internet wasn't really a thing yet.
Women in general have always been objectified in the media. Especially Hollywood.
Like everyone knows that.
And...
I think they're just sick of it to be honest.
Just sick of having to put up with it all the time.
So they all just turn to social media and say, "Look. We've had enough. This needs to stop right now."
Y'know what I mean?
Lee Know
Like John Lasseter?
Conan
Exactly yeah.
When John Lasseter was at Pixar, he sexually harassed so many women and just got away with it for so many years, and just... Disney exec's covering his tracks, every step of the way. And...
I think people just got fed up with it all to be honest.
They just had enough.
Mark
It's funny. We were just talking about John Lasseter in the last episode of the podcast actually.
Conan
Yeah.
Lee Know
Yeah, I think this stems far back before all that though.
I mean, just look at R Kelly, when his house got raided all those years back.
Mark
Or Jimmy Saville? That creepo from The BBC.
Chris.
I was just thinking about that guy actually. Yeah. Damn.
Yugyeom
Yeah what's scary though is that the flipside of this is that, you can even be accused of getting involved in something controversial these days and... even without a shred of proof, people will still believe it anyway and jump to wrong conclusions.
Like, wasn't there that K-drama actor?
Ahh, I've forgotten his name. But I remember it vividly.
He was accused of having an affair and getting involved with some girl.
And, it was later revealed that it wasn't true, that the other girl was just making it all up, but the way the public and his entire fanbase just turned on him at the drop of a hat?
Ahh, it's scary man. It scares me.
Lee Know
All it takes is one rumour and your career is over.
Yugyeom
Exactly, yeah.
Like, imagine if that happened to one of us someday?
Some random accusation comes out of nowhere, that we did something or slept with someone we never even met, and... even without a shred of proof, people would just believe it.
It's scary man, it really truly is.
Troye
What's scary to me as well is that, even if an accusation like that is revealed to not even be true. Like a false accusation?
Like... how many people are gonna actually know about it?
Like... half the people who heard of said accusation and believed it, might not even ever hear of the rumour being debunked afterwards. That it was all fake news.
And it's like... what then? Y'know?
You're just gonna have that over your head for the rest of your life, over something that never even happened?
That's really shitty when you think about it honestly.
How... someone can spread any rumour they wanted, any rumour whatsoever, and... the public will just eat it up, without even a shred of evidence, and those same people may not even check back to find if that rumour was ever debunked or not?
Yugyeom
Exactly, man. Exactly.
Troye
I mean, any one of us could start a rumour right now, that Alec Baldwin did such and such with some teenage girl, or Yu-gyeom has a sugar daddy in Venezuela, or something.
-Yugyeom laughs-
Troye
And, there's probably someone out there who would just take that and roll with it. No second glances.
Conan
Has any of that ever happened to any of you guys before?
Mark
Uhh, no. Not that I can think of...
Yugyeom
I mean, there was all that drama with Jay B and Jin.
Mark
Dude. ...Fuck, I don't even know how Jin manages to get away with even half the things he says and does, man.
Like, there is not a single day that goes by where he's not involved in some kind of drama, or saying something on twitter to piss off his entire fanbase or something.
But... I dunno man, he just seems to enjoy it.
It doesn't faze him in the mere slightest.
Conan
Is he just too big a celebrity to fail at this point?
Mark
I think so, yeah. Kinda.
I dunno what it even is, but...
Whatever Jin does, there's always some crazy controversy surrounding him, and... it doesn't faze him in the slightest.
It's even funny to him, man.
I even look at him sometimes and I'm like, "Dude. How do you keep getting away with all this stuff all the damn time." And he just smiles at me and starts giggling, saying "I'm a South Korean Pop Star, I do as I please." or something.
And I'm just like... Ughhh, I dunno man.
I think he's just so unbelievably controversial, so insanely notorious that... it just kinda cancels itself out and comes full circle somehow...
I honestly dunno.
Chris
Yeah. I think that's related to what I'm saying though. Where there are just some celebrities man, that are just too big to ever fail, no matter what it is they say and do.
They just, can never fail.
Lee Know
They fail upwards.
Chris
Exactly!
Yugyeom
Plus Jin's TG Industries. I doubt he would get away with even half the things he says and does if he didn't have that connection.
Mark
Yeah.
Okay. Well lets talk about that, shall we?
Like, who are some actors in Hollywood you can think of that, in your opinion can never fail, no matter what accusation is thrown their way.
Like, even the worst accusations possible. You still would refuse to believe it. No matter what.
Yugyeom
Halle Berry.
Mark
Okay.
Any particular reason?
Yugyeom
I mean, can you think of anything controversial she's ever done?
Mark
...Fair enough, man.
Fair enough.
Yugyeom
I just like Halle Berry is all.
Mark
Okay.
Any others?
Lee Know
Jim Carrey for me.
Mark
Oh, I love Jim Carrey.
Lee Know
Yeah.
I just think he's such a funny guy. Real Talented.
Clean Comedian as well.
He rarely tells adult jokes or gets involved in any kind of controversy.
That and he's funny as hell.
Mark
His last movie is actually coming out this month actually.
Sonic movie 3.
Lee Know
Oh really?
Conan
Is that his last film? I had no idea.
Mark
Yeah me and Yu-gyeom were planning to go see it actually.
We got invited, along with a few BTS members to go see the premier.
I'm really looking forward to it to be honest.
Yugyeom
Keanu Reeves as Shadow.
Conan
Oh, I love Keanu Reeves.
Yugyeom
We actually met him.
Conan
Did you really?
Yugyeom
Yeah, ages back.
Did we tell this story?
Uhh, Jay B was doing a modelling shoot for fashion week.
We went just to show support and there he was, just hanging out. It was crazy.
Conan
That's so cool. I would love to meet him someday.
Mark
Yeah Keanu Reeves is another one of those actors that I think can't do any wrong.
We all know him from The Matrix but he does a lot of other good stuff as well.
John Wick?
Yugyeom
Bill & Ted
Mark
Yeah.
Chris
Did you guys ever see him in Cyberpunk 2077?
Mark
No. I heard a lot about that game though.
I hear it's good now that they fixed all the issues it had.
Chris
Dude. It's freaking amazing. Definitely worth checking out.
Mark
Okay.
Chris
I only brought it up because Keanu Reeves is in that game.
He plays a character called Johhny Silverhand who lives in your subconscious throughout the game and can talk to you.
It's... so freaking good, man.
One of his best performances, hands down.
Mark
Okay. Cool.
I'll have to check that out sometime.
Yugyeom
Yeah I've been hearing a lot about that game as well actually.
Apparently Idris Elba is in it as well?
Chris
Yeah, he plays a radio DJ I think?
I dunno. The music in that game is really great as well though. Highly recommended.
Mark
Okay. Cool, I'll definitely check it out.
Uhh, any other celebrities you guys wanted to bring up before we move on?
Troye
I've got one.
Keith David.
That's an actor that can do no wrong in my opinion.
Mark
I love Keith David as well.
Troye
Yeah he is such a talented actor. He just has that distinctive voice you just cannot hear anywhere else, you know what I mean?
Conan
Hazbin Hotel?
Troye
Hazbin Hotel, Princess and the Frog...
Yugyeom
Saints Row?
Troye
Yeah... Just... That voice.
You just cannot hear that anywhere else, y'know?
Mark
Yeah.
Another actor I'd throw in that no one's mentioned yet is Jack Nicholson.
Conan
Oh my God, yes.
Mark
You cannot go wrong with any movie he's in.
Conan
As good as it gets.
Mark
As good as it gets. The Shining, Chinatown.
What else?
Yugyeom
Batman.
Troye
Jack Nicholson kills it as The Joker.
It was the role he was literally born to play.
Mark
Yeah. It's like the perfect casting choice.
Michael Keaton as Batman as well.
Just... all fits together perfectly, y'know?
Chris
I'm glad you mentioned that as well because I had one actor I wanted to throw in.
Christian Bale as Batman.
Yugyeom
Oh Totally!
Chris
Christian Bale as Batman and Heath Ledger as The Joker?
Those two were perfectly cast in that movie.
Rest in Peace Heath Ledger, man.
Oh my God. Easily the best Joker performance.
Mark
Yeah Joaquin Phoenix almost came close, but Joker 2 man, oh my god.
What were they thinking?
Yugyeom
Ugh, tell me about it.
And we paid to go see that in Imax, didn't we.
Mark
Dude, if Todd Phillips wants to take Warner Brothers for a ride and waste their time and money, that's fine. But don't waste mine as well.
That wasn't cool, man.
Conan
Wait, what happened?
Mark
Todd Phillips made Joker 2 under protest.
Apparently he never wanted to make it but the studio really wanted it. So they threw so much money at him he couldn't say no.
It was the same situation with the 4th Matrix movie.
The Wachowski's really didn't want to do it, but Warner Brothers really made it clear that this film was gonna happen with or without them.
So under protest they went ahead and made the movie as mediocre as possible, almost just to spite Warner Brothers.
It was "such" a colossal waste of time and potential.
Yugyeom
Dude. Don't talk to Jin about The Matrix.
He will go on a tirade for hours, man.
Troye
Oh dear God, Sweet Jesus no!
Do "not" let Jin rant about those movies again. My entire freaking head will explode.
-Conan laughs-
Troye
Holy shit!
Did anyone even catch what he was saying during that whole entire tirade when he was on here 2 weeks ago?
Like, he was going a mile a minute during that whole entire thing.
I was almost scared to get a word in encase the fabric of our entire reality collapses or something.
Conan
It was crazy.
Mark
Yeah.
I think the worst thing though, is that... when a famous Hollywood director makes a crappy movie like that on purpose?
It's "us", the audience, that really has to suffer.
Because lets face it. Who actually went into Joker 2, knowing it was gonna be terrible?
No one did.
We were all suckered into sitting through that entire movie thinking it was gonna be amazing and it just, delivered absolutely nothing in return.
Nothing whatsoever.
Yugyeom
The Matrix sequels too.
Troye
Oh, Yu-gyeom. Don't.
You keep going on about the Matrix and Jin is just gonna show up. I know he is.
He's gonna burst through those doors any second now and scream something about Lana Wachowski eating shit out of a toilet bowl, I just know he is.
-Conan laughs hard-
-Lee Know laughs-
Yugyeom
Yeah, he actually told me once that he wanted to film a shot by shot remake of The Matrix with me in it playing The Oracle.
It was so crazy.
Troye
What?
Mark
Yeah, he wanted me to play Trinity as well.
I was like, "Umm... thanks?"
Uhh... no?
-Conan laughs hard-
Yugyeom
Basically he wanted to do a shot by shot remake of The Matrix starring Got 7.
Me as the Oracle. Bambam as Serath.
Uhh...
Mark
Jackson as Neo.
Yugyeom
Yeah Jackson as Neo. What else?
Mark
Youngjae as The Merovingian.
Yugyeom
Yeah. Jinyoung as Morpheus. Jay B as Agent Smith.
Troye
But... why though?
Why??
Yugyeom
I dunno man. Just Jin being Jin.
Troye
But, why not do that with BTS members though? Why Got 7?
Yugyeom
I dunno, man.
Mark
He said something about wanting to do a remake of The Shining with BTS.
I remember he kept going on about how Shelley Duvall was the role Jimin was born to play.
Troye
Oh God!
Chris
What?
Mark
Yeah. Jungkook as little Danny. RM as the head cook. Suga as the bartender.
He would not stop going on about it for weeks.
Yugyeom
He even said he wanted to get Taehyung to strip naked and play the old lady in the bathtub, just as an excuse to get Taehyung naked.
Conan
H'oh my God...
Yugyeom
"Wang and all" He said.
"Wang and all".
His words, not mine.
-Lee Know giggles-
Troye
Wait, wait. Lemme guess...
Jin wanted to play Jack Nicholson in that movie?
Mark
The starring role, yeah.
Troye
I fucking knew it.
That doesn't surprise me at all actually.
-Conan laughs-
Troye
Like, I can so see this guy running around a hotel, bouncing off the walls while wielding an axe.
Like, yeah, of course Jin would want to star in this movie. Who else?
-Yugyeom giggles-
Mark
Okay. Well, is there anything more to add before we wrap up todays episode?
Lee Know
Yeah. There is one more I wanna add in real quick before we end it.
You mentioned earlier about actors being perfectly cast in certain movies?
I just wanted to throw this in here.
Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool.
Mark
Oh my God...
-Chris claps hands-
Chris
Bro! How could we forget Ryan!
Lee Know
We actually met him and Hugh Jackman during a promotional music video we did for Deadpool 3. Did any of you guys see it?
Yugyeom
Oh my God! Yeah! We love that video, don't we?
Mark
It was so good.
Conan
I know the one you're talking about actually.
My mind was blown. I was like. "How did they manage to get both Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds in a K-pop music video?"
I was like "Oh my God!"
Chris
Yeah it was so incredible meeting those guys.
Super nice as well.
It was such an incredible experience.
Yugyeom
Yeah I think Felix was on here last time and was telling us all about it.
It really shows though, just how far K-pop has come now, to where even Hollywood is finally acknowledging us.
Chris
Tell me about it.
Yugyeom
Like, even 10 years ago hardly anyone in the west even knew about K-pop.
Now it's pretty much overtaken other genres to the point where it is, just basically pop music in a way.
Like, even bands like One Direction and Backstreet Boys now are pretty much up there in the same league as Stray Kids, BTS and Blackpink now. It's crazy.
Lee Know
You're making me blush, man.
You're making me blush.
Yugyeom
It's true though. We've all come such a long way.
Troye
You definitely have.
Lee Know
Yeah.
Going back to Ryan Reynolds though real quick. I only brought it up because I felt he was perfect casting choice for Deadpool.
Like, even in X-men Origins Wolverine he just stole the show as Wade Wilson.
And, I remember even back then I was like... there is nobody else that's perfect for that role, other than Ryan Reynolds, dude.
Troye
Dude! I was in that movie y'know?
Lee Know
Were you really?
Troye
Yeah, at the very begining, when Hugh Jackman and ...sorry. Wolverine and Sabertooth were both kids.
That was me playing Kid Wolverine.
Conan
Holy shit.
I had no idea you were in a Marvel film.
Troye
Yeah.
You guys forget I've been in movies as well, huh?
I starred in the 3 Spud movies too.
Conan
I had no idea Troye. My bad.
-Troye giggles-
Chris
Have you met a lot of Hollywood talent over the years?
Troye
Quite a few actually.
I met Hugh Jackman during the production of X-Men origins.
Uhh, who else?
John Cleese.
I starred alongside him in the Spud Movies. That was really amazing.
I'm trying to think who else...
My background is mostly in the music industry now, so most of the talent I meet is more from that field.
But yeah, I've worked with a few big actors in my time.
I even met Elon Musk as well actually, funny enough. Back when I used to be a YouTuber.
Like... "Waaaaaaaay" back when.
Chris
That's awesome, man.
Troye
Thank you.
Mark
Well, that's all the time we have for todays episode I think?
I wanna thank both Chris Bang and Lee Know for coming onto the show and chatting with us.
Chris
No problem, man.
Lee Know
Pleasure to be on here.
Mark
And thank you as well to my three amazing co-hosts.
Troye, Conan and Yu-gyeom.
Troye
Yeah, thanks guys.
Yugyeom
Bye guys.
Conan
Thank you guys, God Bless.
Mark
So that's it for todays episode. Join us next time for out podcast finale where we'll have both Taemin from Shiny [Shinee] and Jimin from BTS on the show to discuss Hollywood Reboots.
It should be a lot of fun.
Anyway guys.
Thanks as always for tuning in, and until next time.
Yugyeom
Bye!
Lee Know
Bye everyone.
Chris
Bye guys.
Conan
God Bless.
