Curt Connors is sitting in his lab late one warm summer evening, the clock on the wall showing that it’s almost midnight, the scientist is starring down at his hand in which he is holding a syringe with a purple liquid.
“This time… it has to work,” Curt mumbles to himself, “I’ve run every test I could think of, and every result looked promising. I hope I have finally managed to actually create a serum that will keep that reptile monster inside of me at bay”.
The professor continues to hesitate, “over the past months, I noticed that HE has started to become stronger,” he mumbles, “I feel like every stress situation triggers the transformation, my boss and the board are getting suspicious of me due to my… regular “absences”. I just can’t afford to loose anymore time, but a simple calming drug will not help keeping that beast under control, so I hope by combining a powerful calming drug with the antidote, it will finally prevent me from ever transforming into… HIM!”
Curt takes a deep breath, raising the syringe to his neck, “well, here goes nothing,” he says before letting out a painful grunt when he sticks the needle of the syringe into his neck and injecting the serum into himself.
The professor suddenly doubles over, clutching his stomach, letting out a loud painful groan as an extreme pain starts to spread through his body.
“AAARGH! NOOOO,” Curt shouts in agony, jumping to his feet as the syringe falls from his hand and shatters on the floor, “WHY CAN’T I GET RID OF YOU,” he asks as he feels the transformation already begin, his missing arm shredding the sleeve as a green scaly arm and hand suddenly tear through the fabric.
“I’M SORRY MARGRETE! I’M… SORRY BILLY! I TRIED! OH GOD! I REALLY TRIED,” he continues to shout as he smashes the computer, his rage over his failure only increasing the speed of his mutation.
Curt leans over the desk, clutching it with both of his arms for support, “RRRRGH! Something’s wrong,” he says, “the change… it’s somehow… more painful than… it used to be,” he continues as scales already cover his face, which is already starting to push out into a snout as his teeth grow sharper and pointier as his body, his muscles expand, tearing the end of his sleeves and pants to shreds. His feet burst from his shoes, seeming larger, covered in green scales and long sharp black claws, like on his hands.
“GAAAH! Why… why is it happening… so fast,” Curt asks himself, “it… it’s more painful than before! I’m loosing control even… faster,” he says as his hair falls out, his head completing its transformation.
Curt lets out a terrifying growl as a large tail explodes from his back, “YEEESSS! FREEE! I’M FINALLY FREE AGAIN,” the lizard-man says, “I don’t know what that puny Connors has done, but I feel more powerful than ever! Smarter!”
“Doctor Connors, are you alright in there,” the lizard then hears a female voice and a soft knock coming from the door to his lab, “I heard something! I know you are in an important research, and I didn’t want to disturb you, may I come in?”
The lizard just smirks before turning off the light and hides in the shadows just as the door opens, “doctor,” the woman, who’s one of Curt’s colleagues, cautiously enters the darkened lab. The door suddenly slams shut behind her, but before she is able to turn around, she feels strong arms wrap around her and a scaly hand covers her mouth.
“Sssh… no need to scream… Maria,” the lizard whispers in the woman’s ear, “don’t worry, I feel great! In fact… I feel like a whole new man,” Maria lets out a muffled scream when she feels something bite into her shoulder. The woman begins to writhe in the lizard’s arms, already changing, her glasses fall from her face, “but come, assist me,” Curt continues, holding the struggling woman tightly as a tail explodes from her back, “soon, the pain will be over, and you’ll be reborn!”
The lizard finally lets go of the woman who collapses to the floor groaning and screaming in pain, then it’s all over, and on the ground lies a lizard woman with purple scales and yellow glowing slitted eyes like Curt.
Curt smirks, reaching out a hand, “rise my child,” he says, helping Maria to her feet, “how are you feeling”.
“I… I feel free,” the lizard-woman says, “I can’t believe I was such a weak creature! Thank you, my king, for awakening my true self”.
Curt grins, “my pleasure,” he says, “imagine a world filled with our kind! If you follow my lead, we’ll have this city under our control in a month, then we’ll move on to the next, we won’t stop until this planet has finally been cleansed from that human disease!”
Maria smirks, “then we shouldn’t waste anymore time,” she says before both crash through the door and start attacking and transforming every single person in the building before they all escape into the sewers as the sun begins to raise.
Over the course of the following nights, Curt and his pack begin to pluck people, children, young adults, elderly from the streets and even from their homes, turning them into more lizard people, soon people start to notice the weird disappearances, so it is no surprise that a certain web-slinger is already on the trail.
