Spatial anomalies or elemental portals. These phenomena are rare, but they do occur periodically. They are usually large windows in the air through which various scenes from other worlds can be seen. Sometimes, portals also reveal our world, but this is rare.
Portals come in two types: those through which one can only observe, and those through which something can pass from there. Passing through is impossible; they are one-way portals.
Not to be confused with space-time rifts, when part of our world is replaced by part of another.
