Everything had been perfect: The ritual circle, the iconography, the words rehearsed time and time again... All that was left was to finally get it done. The lizard that had set all this up stood outside the edge of the circle, holding the tome that had given him this idea and held the needed words. Despite all his preparation, and having checked everything several times, his heart was pounding from nervousness as he thought about how this could go wrong... Trying to put his fear aside, he began.

Starting to speak the strange words he'd practiced for so long, the lights in the room seemed to gradually dim a little, aside from the candles around the ritual circle. The room grew warmer, a very slight rumble began, and the lizard did his best to keep his confidence as the ritual drew to a close... And with the last word, a tall fire erupted in the circle, signaling he'd at least done the first part right.

As the fire cleared, it quickly became clear that the lizard was no longer alone. Standing in the circle was a strange, tall being, with four arms and curled, dark horns... A demon. It took a moment to take in its new surroundings, then pressed a hand against the space above the edge of the circle, at which point a previously-invisible barrier of energy came into view, blocking any part of the demon from leaving. It nodded, then looked expectantly at the lizard.

It took a lot for the lizard to not show any fear. This was a being that would be more than eager to kill him if given the chance, and despite all his preparing, he really had no way of knowing what it was going to think of him having forced it to come here. Still, he'd at least planned out how best to keep himself safe, even having some holy water nearby if it came down to it-

"I trust you didn't call me here just to stare at me." The demon's voice broke the silence, low but less bestial than the lizard had been expecting.

"R-right, sorry." The lizard gathered up his confidence, and continued more formally. "I apologize if this summoning has interrupted or bothered you, though what I request will likely not be difficult for you to fulfill. I require you to..." His confidence faltered again; this was going to be a strange thing to ask of a demon. "...T-teach me to swim."

There was a moment of silence, before the demon laughed. "It's been a long time since I was last summoned by someone with a sense of humor!" Then, its smile faded as it realized the lizard still had the same expression. "...You're serious?"

"Th-there aren't enough swim instructors around here, and no one else is allowed to teach anyone, so... I really don't have any other option."

The demon thought for a moment... "Eh, why not. Prepared as you are, I imagine you've got a contract written up?"

I'd intended to do something like this for Not-so-scary divers, but I couldn't find a scary-looking demon that I also wanted to draw.

squirtlerocks07 and I did an RP based on this.

S: out where a pond of water lies on a shore, a lizard seems to be doing something, rather strange, no one would really know what they are up to at the moment, right now, a Scyther was wandering around and happened to spot the lizard, it was their friend! He's wondering what he's doing so he comes closer to investigate, he hopes maybe the lizard will see him and at least say hi

L: The lizard seems too occupied with what he's doing to notice the scyther, looking through an odd book he's holding and occasionally adjusting the position of one of a variety of occult-looking things sitting in a circle on the ground in front of him.

S: "The heck is he doing?" the scyther thought to himself, curious as to what that lizard has planned, he comes a little closer to watch

L: After a little bit, the lizard looks around, seemingly a bit nervous, and spots the scyther. "Oh! Um... Hi. This... Probably looks pretty weird, huh?"

S: "Yeeeah, what in the world is all this?"
the scyther finally comes forward to fully explore what the lizard is doing

L: "Well, um... You know how I've never been able to learn to swim because nobody's been willing to teach me? Today, I'm finally gonna learn. I think I remember you saying you don't know how to swim either, so if you want to stick around this might help you too."

S: "Really? Well I HAVE been wanting to learn how to swim for a while now and there's been nobody in the area who can do that... alright, ill stick around and see what happens then...im curious"

L: "Okay, just... Stay clear of that circle. And bear with me, this is gonna get weird." The lizard stands in front of the circle and starts reading out something from the book in a strange language.

S: the scyther stays out of the way, tilting his head in confusion at why his friend is speaking in a strange language, he gets a little nervous, wondering whats gonna happen

L: As the lizard continues, the objects making up the circle begin to glow red... And when he finishes, the inside of the circle briefly erupts with fire! When it clears, someone's there that definitely wasn't before: A tall creature with brown skin, 4 arms, and curled black horns.

The lizard's eyes go wide at the sight of the creature. "O-oh wow, I really did it... I actually summoned a demon..."

S: the scyther's eyes go wide at the demon that is now in front of them
"D-did you say, A DEMON?!?!?!?! AHHHHHH!!!!"
he hides behind the lizard, yelping in fear
"Are you nuts dude?! Why a demon of all people?! Get rid of it! Its gonna kill us!"

L: Lizard: "R-relax, it's gonna be fine, he can't hurt us from in there!"

The demon nods. "He's right. Couldn't even get to you if I wanted to, I can tell this circle is keeping me from going anywhere." He tries to extend a hand outside of the circle, and some kind of energy forms around it and stops it, as if there's an otherwise invisible barrier.

S: "Still, its a demon regardless! I'm terrifed right now?! There's no way a demon will say yes to this!"

the scyther continues to hide behind the lizard, shivering in fear as he hopes the demon can't actually attack them

L: Lizard: "There's a lot of stuff they'll agree to for the right payment, that's part of why I did this to begin with! I've got a contract written up that'll keep us safe, and they HAVE to follow it once they agree, it's literally not possible for them not to."

Demon: "As much as I've wished to get out of some in the past, there's nothing I can do to manage that. I can certainly just not agree to begin with though, but I can tell you don't intend on wasting my time."

S: "Ugh, the things you'll do for this stuff, its crazy...but you may as well ask, i kind of hope they say no, just so I don't have to be around them and they can leave!"

L: Lizard: "I hope not, this was a lot of work... Here." He holds out a sheet of paper - the contract he'd mentioned - to the demon, being careful not to put any part of himself through the circle, and the demon takes it to read it.

After reading through, the demon laughs. "Teaching you and one other person of your choice to swim, huh? I could do that. And you've certainly covered every loophole I can think of, nicely done."

S: "You've gotta be kidding me... I don't know if I want a demon teaching me how to swim... it sounds...wrong"

L: Lizard: "Look, it's this or it might not be happening. You know how long we've been trying to get someone to teach us! What if we don't do this and we end up falling in water tomorrow?"

Demon: "I take it that that scyther is the extra person you're choosing here?"

S: "G-good point...but don't say that! Whatever, I guess this demon will have to do, as scared as I am, both from them, and learning how to swim..."

the scyther slowly reveals himself and sheepishly waves at the Demon

"H-h-hello..."

L: The demon gives the scyther a nod.

Lizard: "And yeah, he's the one I choose."

Demon: "Fair enough. I accept your terms." He puts his thumb on the contract, which steams a bit as a symbol appears, before the paper rolls up on its own.

S: "A-alright so, I guess this demon is gonna be our swimming teacher then...lets...give this a try..."

L: Lizard: "We should be fine..."

The demon steps out of the circle, the terms of the contract allowing him to leave it. "And, payment up front, as you mentioned in the contract."

Lizard: "Right, here." He gets out a glowing purple stone and hands it to the demon. The demon smiles, and the stone disappears in a burst of fire.

Demon: "Now, let's get started. I imagine we'll be using that pond we're next to?"

S: the scyther tries to not get scared as the demon stepped out of the circle
"Y-yeah"

L: Even the lizard is getting a little nervous now, knowing he's going to have to get into water. "Right, time to get this over with..."

The demon leads the two to the edge of the water. "So, do you two have any experience with water at all?"

S: "No...i-i don't, not a single bit of knowledge..."
the scyther shivers in fear

L: Lizard: "Same here, I've never even been in water at all before..."

The demon sighs. "Guess this'll take a while... Well, we'll wade in first, and get both of you up to at least your chests, that'll be enough for now."

S: "W-well, alright then...I'm so nervous tho!!"

L: Lizard: "We're gonna be fine, he has to keep us from drowning... D-doesn't make it not scary though, yeah..."

Demon: "Try to stay calm, you won't learn much if you panic."

S: "F-fine, lets do this"

the scyther then slowly wades into the water, slowly letting it get up to his chest

L: The lizard carefully gets in too, getting to the same depth.

The demon follows. "Alright, um... We'll start with some basic paddling. Hold onto me, and start just kicking your legs." He holds out his lower set of arms to the two.

S: after being a little hesitation, the scyther then holds the demon's arms, a bit awkward because of the scyth on each arm, but he manages fine as he then starts kicking his legs

L: The lizard holds onto the demon's other two arms and starts kicking too, then the demon starts walking backwards. The lizard and scyther actually lift off the bottom a bit, sort of swimming!

Demon: "Yep, just like that..."

Lizard: "O-oh wow, we're already kind of doing it!"

S: "W-whoa! We're really swimming! T-this is incredible!"

the scyther actually smiles a little as he keeps going, but of course the hardest part is yet to come

L: Demon: "I'm already doing good, huh? Now, see if you two can do it on your own. Try pulling with your arms, as if you're trying to push something aside to move through. I'll get you up if you sink."

The lizard carefully lets go of the demon's arms and tries swimming with his, which he manages! "Oh, yeah! This is going great!"

S: the scyther however is a bit more nervous to let go, it takes him a few moments to get himself together and eventually he lets go as well, trying to swim with his arms and legs, and while its not the best, he manages!
"Whoa! I-i'm doing it!"

L: Demon: "Huh, figured you might have some trouble with those blade arms of yours. Well, now you two can swim on the surface just fine... But, we still need you to learn how to swim underwater."

Lizard: "R-right, yeah... We kind of have to do that..."

S: "Swim underwater?!?! Oh heck no! I am not going anywhere NEAR that! I just wanted to learn how to swim, not be underwater! No way!"

L: Demon: "The contract says I have to get you two competent at swimming both on the surface and underwater. You don't have to enjoy it, but I'm not done until you can handle yourselves underwater."

Lizard: "Yeah, sorry buddy, it's for our own good..."

S: "Are you kidding me?! I should have read that contract before deciding to agree to this! No! I won't do it! I refuse!"

the scyther turns his head down in a sad way, whimpering as he really doesnt wanna learn how to submerge

L: The lizard swims to the scyther, putting an arm around them. "I know this really sucks, but it'd suck more if we ended up underwater anyway and panicked... We're probably at least only going to need one dive, and after that we should be able to just stop."

S: the scyther looks up at the lizard and carefully wraps his own arm around the lizard, being careful so he doesnt poke him with his blade hands

"I-i guess you have a good point, but I still don't know if I can do it! I'm really really scared!"

L: The lizard hugs them back, and laughs a little, quickly explaining why. "Look at us, more scared of diving than being around a literal demon... Who would've thought, huh?"

S: "I've at least warmed up to that demon... he's not so bad, but diving? Heck no! I'm a scaredy cat! Or should I say, a scaredy bug"

L: Demon: "To be completely honest, I'm starting to have some respect for you two as well. This is far from the most annoying thing I've been made to do."

Lizard: "Glad to hear that... And anyway, we might end up liking being underwater! It's definitely unlikely, but it could happen for sure."

S: "Ha! I doubt it! How can being somewhere not breathable POSSIBLY be any fun?! I just don't see the appeal..."

L: Demon: "I like it. Don't know how to explain why, but... Sitting around submerged for a while feels nice. Though I typically do that in lava, not water."

Lizard: "Never knew a demon could enjoy swimming, that's neat..."

S: "Oh yeah thats right, you demons can handle lava like no problem, whats it like?"

L: Demon: "It's peaceful down there. There aren't many demons that live in lava, so there's usually no one around to bother me. I've found that water tends to not be that different apart from the obvious."

Lizard: "I guess that does sound kind of nice..."

S: "I think of lava like a hot tub to the demons then since its so warm and all"

L: Demon: "Pretty much, yeah. Actual hot tubs are different, but more similar than you might think."

Lizard: "Kind of wish I could find out what it's like to swim in lava."

S: "I rather not"

the scyther tries to keep delaying the enviable of submerging, not wanting to do that at all

L: The demon narrows his eyes a bit. "Hang on, are you trying to distract me from getting you two to go underwater?"

Lizard: "Um... I-I kind of am..."

S: "Whaaaat? Nooo! Of course not! Heh heh heh..."

the scyther laughs nervously and his face flushes a little red

L: Demon: "I can tell when people are lying. The longer we delay this, the longer you're going to be scared of it happening, so we should just get it done."

Lizard: "It's a good thing I didn't add any way for us to just refuse to do this..."

S: "Ughhhh!!!! FINE!!! I'll do it then...as much as I don't wanna"

L: Demon: "There you go. It's best to just rush through the things that scare you so they can be over with."

Lizard: "I still don't want to do this either, but yeah, we have to..."

S: "Fine...but shouldnt we get something that'll protect our eyes from the water?"

L: Lizard: "Crap, I forgot goggles..."

Demon: "I'll take care of it." He holds out two hands and snaps the fingers of a third, and two sets of goggles appear in the hands he's holding out.

S: "Whoa! Cool!"

the scyther takes the dark purple goggles from the two

"Uhh, can somebody help me put them on? I'm worried I'm gonna poke myself in the eye if I try and put them on, heh"

L: Lizard: "Oh, right, here." He helps the scyther put theirs on, then puts on the others that are light blue. "Okay, I guess we're ready..."

Demon: "We can start by just ducking down here, if that works. You wouldn't have to go far underwater."

S: the scyther gulps, very worried about ducking underwater

"O-ohh this is gonna be so scary!!"

L: Demon: "It'll be fine, even just going under for a couple seconds would help a lot. Doesn't have to be very long."

Lizard: "Th-that really doesn't help much..."

S: "Exactly! It doesnt!"

the scyther shivers in fear, looking down at the water below as he yelps a little too, he's THAT scared

L: Demon: "Hm... I'm not good at helping people work through fears, I generally do the opposite..."

Lizard: "Um... M-maybe if we all go together at the same time..."

S: "Its too bad our coach isn't a soothing person who understands these fears, ugh! The times where I need one!"

the scyther keeps being scared, unsure if going at the same time would help

L: Lizard: "Sorry, I just picked one that seemed like it'd be easy to summon..."

Demon: "I really don't have many ideas... Do you think hugging me would help? I'd let you."

S: "Hugging a demon?! Are you out of your mind?! I don't wanna get any of your cooties on me! Heck no! I don't wanna touch you anymore then just your arms!"

the scyther tries to back away from the Demon so he doesnt get too close to him

L: The demon laughs a little. "Cooties...?"

The lizard sighs. "Ugh, there has to be SOMETHING we can do! Don't demons have magic or something? Maybe you could do something with that?"

S: "Its probably all dark magic, its not like he can make his appearance more cuter, and friendlier, cause if he can do that, then maybe ill have a shot at doing this, cause I love cute things!"

L: Demon: "...Actually... Illusion magic IS a kind of dark magic, and I'm fairly good at it. Anything in particular you'd prefer I look like?"

Lizard: "Oh! I guess I'll leave that up to my friend, he needs it more..."

S: "Oh! Well hmm... I like dragons, especially ones that are really soft to touch and friendly, while also firece, so maybe look like one of those?"

L: Demon: "I think I know what you mean. How's this?" Darkness formed around him, and when it cleared, his appearance had shifted to that of a quadrupedal green dragon, maybe about the size of a horse.

Lizard: "Yeah, that'll totally work for me!"

S: "Oh my goodness! That looks great! Now thats the kind of dragon I like, I think this'll help! Maybe I can hug you now, heh"

L: Demon: "Heh, I'll leave that up to you. Now, think you're more willing to go underwater now that you've got a dragon with you?"

Lizard: "I think so... Not really gonna know until we try."

S: "Well, I guess there's one way to find out, to give it a try"

L: Lizard: "Yeah, we should probably get on with that..."

Demon: "Alright, let's get this done. Us all going down at once definitely couldn't hurt, so I'll do a countdown and then we'll go, okay?"

S: "F-fine, I'm just gonna focus on your dragon look and hopes its enough to calm me down"

L: Demon: "Hopefully this'll work. 3, 2, 1..." He lays down to get underwater, and the lizard sits down a moment after, going fully under.

S: after a bit of hesitation and lot of whimpering, the scyther takes a deep breath himself and dives underwater, his cheeks puffing up with air as he thinks he's looks ridiculous like this

L: The lizard is puffing his cheeks as well... And so is the demon! He smiles a little as he sees that the scyther and the lizard are both doing the same.

S: the scyther turns away a bit shyly, letting some bubbles loose, but eventually he got too scared to continue and goes back up, gasping a little heavily for breath

L: The lizard and demon both surface too, the lizard gasping a bit too, though not as hard.

Lizard: "I-I guess that wasn't so bad..."

Demon: "Exactly, there's not much to be afraid of."

S: "I'll have to admit, I'm still scared, but definitely less then before so, the dragon look helped"

L: Demon: "All that's left that I need you two to do is swim around underwater for a bit. That'll confirm for me that you can keep yourselves safe in water, and then we'll be done."

Lizard: "Glad there isn't going to be much more of this..."

S: "Aww we gotta go underwater AGAIN?! I don't know if I can do it a second time, the first time was hard enough! Can't we just call it here? Come on!"

L: Demon: "If you want it to be done sooner, start swimming sooner. I didn't make the rules here, your friend did."

Lizard: "Yeah, I wanted to be absolutely sure. Didn't want to miss anything after going through so much effort..."

S: the scyther glares at the lizard for the moment

"Gosh darn it! Ughh, I guess i don't have a choice"

L: Lizard: "Sorry, it's for the best... I think..."

Demon: "I'll let you two know once I've seen enough to be sure, then we can all surface and finish this up."

S: "Alright, lets get this over with, lets all go down at the same time too"

L: Demon: "That did seem to help before, so yeah, let's do that again. 3, 2, 1..." He holds his breath and dives, and the lizard does so as well, right away this time.

S: the scyther however was still a little nervous and hesitant, but eventually he holds his own breath and dives under as well

L: Seeing the scyther go underwater, the demon gives them a nod, before motioning for them and the lizard to follow as he starts swimming along.

The lizard follows them, trying his best to keep calm.

S: the scyther whimpers away a couple bubbles before he too follows, his movements very sluggish but working

L: The demon looks back to watch the two swim, making sure it's working okay. He smiles a little as he sees them both swimming, but figures he should give it a bit more time to be sure.

The lizard is getting increasingly nervous, feeling a need to breathe starting to make itself known.

S: the scyther was releasing a ton of bubbles, his face fully red as he was getting really scared, constantly looking at the surface as well

L: Thankfully, not long after, the demon is satisfied with how they're doing. Stopping in place, he gestures toward the surface before heading up.

The lizard quickly follows, glad to finally be done.

S: the scyther follows as well and gasps hard for breath, panting a bit

"Hah...hah...no more! No more diving! I still hate it!"

L: The lizard gasps too, trying to calm himself down. "I-I'm tired of this... Are we done?"

Demon: "I'd say so. You two can clearly safely be in water at this point, and that means my job's done."

S: "Finally, i don't think I'm gonna be swimming anytime soon tho... that was awful, or at least not go underwater"

L: Demon: "I'll admit, I did enjoy this more than I thought I would... It was a nice change of pace from what I'm typically summoned for."

Lizard: "Well, I'm glad at least someone had a good time with this..."

S: "Yeah, I suppose so...now if you could kindly leave so I can have a break, I appreciate that"

the scyther doesnt hestate to swim back to shore onto dryland

L: Demon: "Right, I'll be off then. Maybe we'll meet again sometime." A burst of fire surrounds them, making the water bubble, and when it clears he's gone.

Lizard: "I kind of hope we don't..." He joins the scyther back on land.

S: "Same here... well that was a nightmare, at least we can stay safe in the water now, but I'm tired, i think im gonna go take a nap"

L: "Sorry for putting you through all that, it really felt like the only way... Yeah, I'm gonna go relax for a bit myself."

S: the scyther actually managed to take his goggles off carefully before yawning

"Well alright then, see you around"

he then walks off to go take his nap, relieved that all of this is over
