---FINAL FIVE---
no.3: Trance Kuja - Final Fantasy IX
Earlier this year a certain game had it's 25th anniversary...you may or may not have heard of it! When I said that only a few games best Pizza Tower due to nostalgic and sentimental values, Final Fantasy IX was one of those. After 25 years it still stands as my favorite game of all time, so much so that it transcends the fact that I don't like Final Fantasy. Indeed, it's because of this game's anniversary that I've found myself particularly introspective this year. I've already talked at length before about how I feel about this game, so I won't chew your ear off about it here. All I'll say is that I wasn't satisfied simply drawing the game's playable cast. I had to commemorate it in what is easily my most important and well known hallmark at this point, my Halloween Countdowns!
Unfortunately this came with a problem. You see for as much as I like Final Fantasy IX, Kuja just isn't very impressive to me. He does his role fine, but I always feel like he needs more and I blame that mostly on the English translation ripping away a lot of his character for something more palatable for the dumbed down American masses. Regardless, Kuja has always come up short for me and while I'd like to add in something I liked more I was faced with the question of who else could I add? My favorite enemy in the game is the Gimme Cat, but that's too small. Necron's a joke (one I will actively defend, but still a joke) and I've already added Zorn and Thorn before. I could have added Garland sure, but at the end of the day Kuja is who we all remember and perhaps that's the point. He wasn't the biggest or the best, he may always be a second or even thirds place villain...but we still remember him.
Or maybe I should've drawn the Gimme Cat.
