For a game that feels like it’s been etched into my soul since birth, I was surprised to find less than a full calendar year has passed since In Stars and Time absolutely rocked my shit. And so there was only one choice for this year’s hallowing of the weens cosplay art.
I was introduced to the game from seeing some fanart of it. Reviews raving about an exceptionally well written and unique time-loop narrative got me to give it a chance. I expected what I’d come to expect from such recommendations: a decent story stuck in a genre I approach more with tolerance than appreciation.
Suffice it to say I was wholly unprepared for the subsequent two days spent hopelessly enraptured by what I am comfortable declaring the single most impactful piece of media I have experienced in at least the past ten years. I still distinctly recall the 30-odd minutes spent sitting in stunned, slackjawed silence, staring at the main menu after the credits rolled. This is one JRPG absolutely worth making an exception for and that is not a statement I make lightly.
Despite seeing some success in gaining wider recognition, In Stars and Time remains frustratingly underrated. So once again I am doing my part to spread the word: if you have the means, please give this game a shot.
